What to do with the old gas tank filler

I put a Boyd welding tank in the 66 and was trying to figure out what to do with the hole. Options were to weld it up, leave the old filler neck in or do something different. Welding and the old filler neck were not good options so I went to the metal bin to see what I had. Found a piece of 3" 6061 and here is what I came up with. Looks good and no chance of some one putting fuel in the wrong spot.

Very nicely done! I like how you made it appear factory-ish with the knurling on the edge.

A '70s Honda CB750 piston fits perfectly in the grommet if you remove the factory filler.

To do the knurl I have a tool for that. Just used light pressure. Hayes is Gloucester County. right on the York river and the Chesapeake bay.

Re: What to do with the old gas tank filler

I put a new rubber gasket for the filler neck and it does have a hole bored down the middle to get rid of some weight. Weight is not to bad just looks heavy. Randy here is a pic of the truck. not real good but its all I have on this computer.

Re: What to do with the old gas tank filler

That's pretty cool! I expoxied the original cap to the neck, but I like your solution better.
