Which rear end to swap
I am looking to find a rear end with 3.73's or something close. I have ran across several f body cars that have what I'm looking for. What model rear ends are a easy swap into a 85 c10. Am I limited to find a c-10 that doesn't have these highway gears In em?

Re: Which rear end to swap
Any GM rear end you find thats not a 73-87/91 will not be a direct bolt in. You will have to clean the axle tubes of all mounting brackets and get new spring perches and shock mounts then there will most likey be more issues to deal with like u-joint size, brake line, drive shaft length, wheel bolt circle, and housing width. That seems to be a lot of trouble to go through just for a better gear set than just having a set of gears installed in you current rear end housing that all ready fits your truck.

Re: Which rear end to swap
That's what I figured would be the best idea just swap my current rear end with new gears. I just have an opportunity to get a good deal on a couple f body rearends but I don't want to deal with all the trouble to swap

Re: Which rear end to swap
You need a truck rear end the car ones are smaller and weaker.A car 10 bolt is 7.5 ring gear where the truck 10 bolt is a 8.5 ring gear.Unless its a 1st or 2nd gen f body i would pass on the rear end fully. The 3rd gen had a junky rear end and the 4th gen wasn't that much better.
