Engine guru's, need help, what do I have?
Hi,
New guy here. Picked up, what I was told is a 1962. Bit of a barn find. It's been sitting since 1981. Currently is running, not well, but running. It has an exhaust manifold leak, so I would like to replace that and get a new exhaust welded up before I really start tinkering with the dizzy and points. I think it is a 3/4 ton, has the 8 bolt hubs. Just wondering what engine I have. Not sure how many options these came with, but I thought I read some where it was at least 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached a couple pics from Sunday when I trailered it home. Thanks in advance, Matt |

Should be casting numbers near the distributor. They will tell you what engine u have. Plenty of charts on these forums that will give u that info.

Nice! The 235's are my favorite out of all the inline 6's. If you get a chance, I'd like to see some pics of that fuel pump / filter sitting there. Oh, and hang on to them hubcaps! They don't make re-pops for the '62 year hubcaps.

Re: Engine guru's, need help, what do I have?
Did a little pressure washing on the engine today, this is what I'm seeing.
Above the starter: CON4 L261 Behind the Dizzy: GM and what below that looks like l8? In front of the Dizzy: 3769716 Vin # on the cab card in the visor is: 2C254J110783 Not sure if I have everything or what any of this means? Matt Last edited by buckroseau; 09-27-2014 at 07:17 PM. |

Re: Engine guru's, need help, what do I have?
Thanks for all the help guys!
Took a few pics today. Last week I picked up a set of 22" rims with 305/45's on them for $300. Pretty good deal and worth a try. Bolted them on today, I thought they looked pretty cool for that rat rod look. Hoping to lower the torsion bars up front. Also heat the rear coils with rosebud tip and settle the rear down 2 or 3". Pressure washed the motor to get the casting #'s, took a few pics. Also a couple of the interior. Had a seat cover on it that was all ripped up. Pulled that off and underneath it was the original seat with no rips or tears. I put in a new set of plugs today, that seemed to make a huge difference since the ones that were in there were from pre 1981 and one was a lawn mower plug. Ordered up an HEI dizzy and wires tonight off fleabay. Also an intake/exhaust manifold gasket set. Hoping to get those in next weekend. Would also like to get a local guy to bend up an exhaust for it this week as well. Matt Last edited by buckroseau; 09-28-2014 at 11:38 PM. |
