Where did you find your LS?
I've been lurking for a while and reading up on swapping in a LS. I'm looking for engine, tranny and harness, I would be willing to buy a wrecked vehicle and go from there. I've been on CL and there's not much listed, where are good places to find a decent setup? Where did you find yours?

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Found mine on Craigslist. There was a local U-Haul service hub that had pulled a ton of 4.8s out of wrecked trucks figuring they'd be useful as replacements when any of the other motors died. Except they didn't have very many dead 4.8s, so they had a huge stash of replacements they needed to get rid of.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
I found mine on Craigslist as well. However, it wasn't on my local CL. I had to drive about 2.5 hours away. It was such a good deal, it was worth the effort and the drive. I lucked out and was able to buy a complete truck. A tree had fallen on the truck but it still ran and drove. I was able to part-out the remaining good parts off the truck and essentially get my LQ4/4L80E for just a few hundred bucks.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
I used to check car-part almost daily. Great sight.
I found mine on a local FB for sale page.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
In the time it takes anyone to read PAST this post, they could have already found a motor on car-part.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Ebay, I called the company that listed it directly, and the guy cut me a deal if I just paid over the phone, instead of going through the whole online process, and you save a whole lot on shipping if you can have it shipped to a commercial address that can unload with a forklift.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
I did it the hard way...parted a wrecked 2000 4wd. I sold all the parts from the old truck...(saved a few pcs for my 02 Silverado), & did not have a nickel ,in a running 5.3! I did not scrimp on parts going in, the heads were pressure checked/surfaced, & a fresh grind on the valves. The springs were replaced (blue springs). If you are short on time, look at the boneyard picks....I would do the same again, hell I dropped 30 lbs, just parting that truck? Longhorn

Re: Where did you find your LS?
I bought my first one ( 4.8/4l60e) from a local yard ( $1450 complete)...turned out to be a bad motor ( rust in cyl), bought the replacement from LKQ with 7K miles on it, since I already had the swap completed, the motor change out was easy and quick.
I didnt need anything but the fuel setup and mounts. hacked my harness myself and tune was mail order. I did mine in 2009, so not many specific parts being made at the time.5 years she has been going. probably got around 6K miles on top of the 7K she had.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
first one 10 years ago complete fan to tranny at a local yard 5.3. I wired it had a tune dropped in in and ran it never even removed the intake. I did need to clean the injectors. Still running strong now with a turbo.
Second 5.3 my buddy found on the real cheap so I have a spare. The 6.0 local on craigslist. They are easy to find.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Found mine on CL too. A tow yard a couple hours away from me had a wrecked Yukon XL that had been sitting there too long and I got the whole thing for $1200. Once I'm done pulling everything for the swap I should be able to make most of that up parting out what's left. There are good deals out there if you aren't in a hurry and don't mind scouring the Internet lol.

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Ebay but called them direct to order. Saved some money. Only issue I had was that the engine was from the north east so it was rusted and the aluminum didn't really look so hot. Spent 2 days sanding and cleaning. My fingers still hurt. Will spend the extra money to get a local one next time.

I went with a complete donor truck. In my case I also needed a chassis so it was a no brainer. E-Bay

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Being you are Fl. check out this guy. I bought one from him 3 years ago and he is still in business, he will try and sell you the "farm" so be sure of what parts you "need".
Marv Niceville Fl 850 729 5544. He was not the cheapest but he had a COMPLETE dropeout and I was tired of searching for partial units. He was on the way to the West coast so he delivered it to my door, I am sure I paid for it!!

Re: Where did you find your LS?
Found mine on CL. I searched "5.3L" and a wrecked 06 trailblazer popped up. It had hit a tree on the front end, and while it totaled the vehicle, the engine still ran and the radiator was not compromised. Got it for $1800. I hope to be able to part out the rest of the trailblazer and get the engine/trans for free.
