Re: Patriot Heads
I've got the small block version... Had some fitment issue with intakes but I had to go vortec style intake because of tall intake runners. BBC different! I had an oil issue too with oil creeping up the valve cover bolts. Other than that I can tell you to clean clean clean and I would buy bare heads and get your own valves, springs, etc and lap the valves real good and check for valve guide fitment with your valves...

Re: Patriot Heads
It is my understanding that Patriot Heads no longer exists. The same heads are now available under the name ProMaxx Heads.

Re: Patriot Heads
Dont know anyone with them. See alot of big block stuff but no ProMaxx, heard there was problems with Patriot. Brodix, Edelbrock, BMF are popular. These are all aluminum if you looking that direction.

Re: Patriot Heads
Stick with proven US manufactured heads, etc. I had a customer who tried to use Patriot heads-junk! They were Chinese casts and assembled in an Ohio foundry. The accessory holes were a 1/2" off on four of them.
Again, I wish people would avoid all Chinese crap. US built parts arent overpriced IMO, its just that a lot of people think everything should be cheap. China can't even copy anything correctly-so forget about actually being a performance trendsetter. |

Re: Patriot Heads
Mine are still going strong years later... Just my 2 cents but not everyone can afford name brand stuff or the market wouldn't be flooded with it. I'd love to have a set of afr cylinder heads but $ is an issue so I use what I can afford.

Re: Patriot Heads
Its hard to resist cheap heads but after building a motor, detailing a nice GM serpentine kit and not being able to bolt up GM brackets that were used on millions of engines because the accessory holes are way off....that is not something I'll ever forget nor have I ever heard that happen with Edelbrock, AFR, or even World or Dart.

Re: Patriot Heads
I understand your frustration but it happens with cheap stuff yes. I Do a lot of body stuff and know about Chinese vs oem. Chinese quality is fewer and far more between checks then american parts that's where a lot of your price difference comes from. Sorry about your luck I just had a few minor issues on mine until I went with the vortec stuff then all was good. If money allows by all means get the best you can afford for me I'm broke more than I'm paid so side
money is all I get to spend on the truck.. Btw did you call and tell them that? A friend of mine sent one head back because it had some imperfections on the deck and they sent another.

Re: Patriot Heads
These heads came assembled already from a local machine shop who had an deal selling Patriot heads. After the alignment fiasco, the machine shop did take them back-at the time there was an 8 week wait on AFR's so we opted for a set of GM fast burn ZZ4 style aluminum heads instead.

Re: Patriot Heads
I looked into the GM fastburns but the steel version from jegs and when I compared numbers like flow and port size and valve size I was thinking the knockoffs but then I believe it was Chevy high performance mag did a iron head test that the patriots were in like a doller for doller/hp type test and the patriots were at the top of the list so that was why I went with them. I'll see if I can find the test.

Re: Patriot Heads
I have a pair of Patriot heads on my BBC and love them. They are cast in China but machined and assembled in Rainbow City, Alabama. Promaxx is the new name on them due to a change in ownership of the business. I would buy another pair. I have had none of the issues others here claim- I wonder if they are thinking Procomp?

Re: Patriot Heads
Whats the overall goal of the build? are you trying to make 1500hp or 600? That may be a really good place to start. If you are looking for 600Hp or less then dont discount a set of GM 781s or 990s.
I have also had a lot of luck with the "cheaper" Dart oval ports making some great power. |
