Got myself a 79 2wd k5.

Hey fellas.

So it is an exciting time for me. I've had a few 4x4 k5s when I was younger but I have wanted a 2wd k5 since 2003ish. I came across this guy on Craigslist and got an awesome deal on it. Already put about 150 miles on it in the last 2 days and she is running great.

Typical stuff done to it.

"Rebuilt" 350 lol
mystery lowering
bondo
dents tons of missing interior bits
all ac stuff there which is nice.

It came with a complete front clip from another 79 that's in great shape. As well as a driver side door.

She was rode hard and out up wet in the past. However you can tell the previous owner has been working to get her running/driving good.

I am going to continue that tradition and try and get all the basic mechanics situated then move onto the suspension then body/interior. Not necessarily in that order. I'm a Craigslist addict so I'm hoping to find someone parting out a burban or k5 that I can rob everything from.

It's currently on the red rally (i know) they are getting painted ASAP.

Well anyways guys I just wanted to stop by and say hey. If I can make some stuff happen I will get the lowering stuff ordered soon. I might be going to the yards this weekend as well to look for some interior parts. There is also a few local gus parting out their burban so I might try and just pick up a complete roller for donations.

Yeah its nice in that aspect. But then you have sun baked interiors and no paint. And most of the time older cars are from out of state so they have some rust. It's a trade off I suppose.

yeah it looks decent now, however its on cut springs.

I will most likely go with some 2" springs and 3" spindles. and a flip kit and shackles for the rear. Same setup I had on my stepside and I loved it.

Re: Got myself a 79 2wd k5.

The truck had some stupid red rallies, I couldn't stand them so I painted them.

The front clip will be here tomorrow and will be going on that day. i am going to remove the busted up front clip tonight.

Yeah I agree. I got it semi bolted up. Need to throw the rest of the hardware on and then shim her up.

And here is my old c10 I want to try and mimic this suspension setup. Might have the back be a tad bit higher.

Re: Got myself a 79 2wd k5.

OK I'm gonna post this in here as well.

Alright fellas. I hate posting things like this but u am running out of ideas.

My k5 has a stock 350. Edelbrock intake and 1405 carb. I just replaced all the fuel lines with 3/8 fuel line. I installed a holly 12-803 adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I also rebuilt the carb. And I made sure the floats were set perfectly(or close to).
It has .095 primary jets and .092 secondaries.
Idle mixture screws are new and right around 2 1/4 turns out.

At idle this thing runs pig rich. The afpr is acting up as well. I played around with the screw and got it to right at 5 but I think it's not really adjusting properly. when I get it to around 5 it still smells way rich. It burns my eyes bad.

Here's a few pics of the setup.

If anyone has an idea please let me know.
Oh and I have the edelbrock manual.

Re: Got myself a 79 2wd k5.

Been doing a lot of work on the k5 over the past few days.

Got the timing all sorted out which made a massive difference. There was absolutely no timing advance. The vacuum can was shot and the weights had no bushings and were locked into place. The springs were also busted.

I replaced all that stuff. And got a curve kit to dial everything in.

When I did that I put a new msd cap, rotor and wires.

The truck is running absolutely awesome at the moment.

I added a tach and just got an oldschool grant wheel for it.

Re: Got myself a 79 2wd k5.

Got some more work done on the k5.

Got myself some 87 burban doors with power locks/windows. Got the wiring figured out just have to route the harness.

Also got an efan installed. I just have to do the wiring which shouldn't be difficult.

I also took her on a 2 hour trip and she did wonderfully. Absolutely no issues.

Do you mind advising what size tires and width rims you are running? They look good.
