Door weather strip gasket glue
Putting new door weather strips on, trying to get the old glue off. Worked all day and only got about half of door done. Any one have any good ideas to get the old glue off ?

Five gallons of gas and a match will do the trick.
Just kidding. I usually use thinner, scraper, sweat, a little blood always helps, and a dose of persistence. Stuff is a bear. No doubt about it.

Re: Door weather strip gasket glue
I haven't tried it for glue but bug and tar remover might work, wd40 also cleans up painted areas, a heat gun at lowest setting to not affect the paint might help
Good luck

tried the heat gun, no help. Been picking at it with a dull pocket knife, works, but slow.

Re: Door weather strip gasket glue
T and S Are you using the Honda door weather strip? If so and the old adhesive didn't get up past the pinch seam the Honda weather strip will cover the old glue. I didn't bother to remove any of the old adhesive off my door frame and the Honda weather strip covered it all. The Honda weather strip has an additional finish piece that covers very well.

you have to use oil to get that off if you really want it off. I use regular cooking oil.

Re: Door weather strip gasket glue
I've used this stuff with good results. Most auto parts stores carry it.
It's actually made for getting bumper sticker glue off of painted bumpers. It still takes some elbow grease but it gums up the glue so it's easy to get off.
