60-66 chassis failures?
Hey all! I'm boxing my frame and plan X bracing on my 66 c10. My question is does anyone know or have evidence of the weak links in the chassis? I may put a cummins in it, I really don't want overkill and too much added weight. Thanks

Re: 60-66 chassis failures?
frame doesn't need boxing for that. is it a "c" or "k" series?

It's a C10, I also want the option for 500-600 hp while I'm at it. The cummins weights over 1000lbs

Re: 60-66 chassis failures?
with what attached. thought that they were about 800-850 lbs
the weakest spot will at there the steering box mounts and in that vicinity. I ran a 4 cyl detroit in mine for 18 years. complete eng with 5 speed weighed in at 1750 lbs, plus there was also a winch bumper on frt. the frt suspension was not dsigned to hanle that weight. I also put 3/4 t axles underneath ron |

I'm talking about a 6cyl. I've seen a lot of overkill on frame mods, just want to check with the vast knowledge here. Thanks Ron

Re: 60-66 chassis failures?
I have a 65 suburban frame that has some cracks where the front cross member bolts to the frame, however I think it was probably from thousands of dirt road miles, not weight.
over the years here I have seen a couple guys post about cracks around the front shocks/shock area (this is also the same general area that my suburban frame is cracked..)

Re: 60-66 chassis failures?
Good info! I was also wondering the difference between 3/4 t and 1/2 t chassis beside springs? I've seen a lot of conflicting posts about it, I'm confussed.

Re: 60-66 chassis failures?
There has to be some and probably between the Chevy and GMC frames as well. I have a GMC that had that 305E motor in it which I thought weighed around 700 something pounds...
