Using an inline 6 bell housing on a v8
So I'm using a Saginaw 4 speed on a inline 6 bell housing ! The problem is the front bearing retainer is a different size on the factory three speed than 4 speed! And leave some play cause the 4 speed is smaller! Any ideas!

How much smaller? 1/16, 1/8 or more.
If it is fairly small you can just roll up a thin piece of sheet metal and tack or in some other way "bond" the ring onto the bell housing. If it is too much you might have to have a ring machined and then "BOND" it to the bell housing in some fashion.

Unless you have a truck 3-speed you can rob the input bearing retainer from, because they interchange and the 3-speed will be the larger diameter. I did that when I put the 4-speed in my truck initially. For my TREMEC I used an adapter like LockDoc posted, only I just took measurements from a thread on here and had a local machine shop make it for me.

I tried swapping the input shaft retainer with the Saginaw three speed and 4 speed but they won't work their two different bolt patterns

Why not just get the correct bellhousing? Should be able to find at any swap meet.

I believe you need the '63-'67 bellhousing for the small retainer trans, '68-'72 bellhousing for the larger retainer trans.
