Another newbie...

Hey guys just joined the forums been looking around seeing some nice trucks just got myself a project, pretty clean truck got it for $1,100, looks like rocket science behind the cluster but at least the fuel gauge, heater and headlights work lol. I dislike the the bed, but love how clean it is, while ago I picked up a 88 stepside 2wd for $300, someone hacked the wiring harness and stuffed a 70's 350 with a turbo 400, smashed front end...Needed a ride so got a front end off a 93 suburban for $100, threw it on there and she ran like a raped ape until emissions was up my butt, so was going to just yank motor/trans keep the bed and scrap it then figured what the hell, upgraded brakes, v8, pwr steering...etc just swap cabs, so thats the idea.

I had already stripped the truck before I got the 62, was loading the motor in the back looking at the front end of the 62 when the idea came about.

Welcome! These trucks are fun and it looks like you have a nice truck to start with. IIUYC, you're planning an engine swap? What's in the 1962 now? **EDIT** OK, I see the engine bay photo now. Does it run decent?

It runs like a champ 235 I believe, been just driving it til I get some funds for everything I need,finally got the cluster working (lights) fuel gauge, brake lights, would keep truck original since its so clean but this way its cheaper/less work I think. Plus I love the short box, but the previous owner took the what is supposed to be 3 on the tree ( i believe?) and stuck a 3 speed on the floor in it, but gave me a 4 speed to go with it.

Installing your '62 cab on the '88 frame is something I would recommend against. It isn't going to be easy at all. Plus then here in Idaho, to keep it all legal, you will need to have all receipts for everything. And then have the State Motor Vehicle Investigator check everything and issue you a reconstructed vehicle title.

As much as I don't like the '60-'62 frames, I would definitely keep that over the '88 frame and just install the engine and trans from the '88.

Interesting was doing research and never heard of anything like this, my brother works with an ol' timer whos done many bed/cab swaps frame mods etc, and the guy I bought the truck from is building a 63 on a s-10 frame and has built them in the past and didn't mention anything of this, they said the worst will be just gettin the body mounts on. but will look more into it, thanks
