Hi guys,
Are 700R4 transmissions that come out of trucks with 4.3s built as sturdy as the ones that came out of trucks with 5.7s ??? Thanks, Barry |

It's the same. I believe the torque converts have a little higher stall speed than the ones behind the v8s. I was gonna put one in when Installed my 700r4 but I ended up doing a 4l80/lq4 swap about 6 months later. It's the year of the transmission you are more worried about. 89 and up are the more desirable ones.

I put one from a 1989 S10 4.3 in my truck a couple years ago. It fit fine, and have had no problems with it. I have heard the v6 version has different clutches in it, but have not been able to confirm.

Re: 700R4 from 4.3 useable for 5.7 ???
Gary, I think the clutches are the same but maybe there is one less in each pack. I too have sold/used v6 700R's behindV-8's [some warmed up pretty good and had real good luck with them. Just heed my word of caution: make double sure the TV cable is adjusted right and I'm not talking the one on your flat screen. If the TV cable on the 700R4 is not done right it will self destruct in short order mainly depending on the amount of the cable being out of adjustment.
If it does shift funny like it is way too late or early you may want to check the governor. If it is out of a car/truck that is way heavier or lighter it may make a difference and you may need a set of weights. Jim |

Re: 700R4 from 4.3 useable for 5.7 ???
The clutch count is the same between a 4.3L & V8 700.
The 60 degree V6 version of the 700 has 1 fewer clutch in the forward & 3-4 packs. The 4-3 downshift is fairly active on a 4.3L 700. A spring change in the Valve Body can fix this if annoying. Some 4.3L 700's have a small "554" 2nd piston, The 2-4 band can burn-up if used behind a 350. Use a standard V8 "553" or Vette "093" 2nd piston. |

They are talking about the 1-2 servo piston, part of the 1-2, 3-4 servo assembly. 99% of it comes out by removing 1 external C wire, it's on the passenger side near the front and close to the pan.

What additional setup is needed to upgrade from a 700r4 to a 4L60E?
