C4 swap

Well, first off I'm new to your forum "Hi" to all . Now the question?I've picked up a 1962 C10 fleet side,started working on it and discovered that the front torsion bar suspension is slammed to the ground and i can't lift it back but I'm thinking i have access to a mostly complete 1985 corvette and I'm wondering if the C4 front suspension from it or place the body directly on the frame{with some fabrication} and use the whole thing. please let me know if anyone has done or heard of it being done

That is a lot of work. Either go stock out of a later year or buy an aftermarket crossmember.

Yes, it has been done. There are a lot of C4 transplants in the older straight axle trucks. Not too popular in the 60+ due to them already having an independent front. Porterbuilt used to make a C4 dropmember for the C10's:

http://www.flatout-engineering.com/ has a weld front crossmember for the c4 stuff.The rear your kinda on your own to make work and fit.

I built my own frame. Has flat out's front and something I came up with for rear. I will be running coil overs. Flat out has rear coil over kit and front comes with cross member. If I could go back in time I would have made my own front.. Nice piece that uses factory C4 components but very simple in design. due to the width you have to basically cut the front horns off of your frame. I suppose if someone really wanted to they could build their own cross member that would fit outside a factory c10 frame. this would also help with how narrow the track width on a C4 is. Finding rims is going to be a big pain. I have 9.5'' C4 rims on the front now. The outside of the wheel is 6-7'' inside my fender... Guess I could run 14'' wide rims up front and 16's in the rear.
