wiring Pertronix Igniter III

Guys, I know this topic has been discussed before (probably several times). I even had a topic about it a couple years ago, but the search doesn't seem to come up with what I need. I just put my engine back in (SBC modified) which uses an igniter III and a flamethrower coil....it was working but stopped because I think I wired the ignition to the coil backwards....so green wire goes to positive on coil....right?

Correct. on stock truck coil + is feed from the resistor during run, from the ing switch during start (one wire, the ing. is spliced into the wire from the resistor to give full voltage at start). I know nothing about Pertronix but the output to the coil should go to +. Coil - goes to the distributor points on stock.

The side of the coil with the + or - that goes to the distributor will always match the ground on every gasoline vehicle made.

That works the other way when you drag an old rig home and don't know how to hook the battery too. Usually the coil wires have not been disturbed on a rig that has been sitting intact for a period of time.

Re: wiring Pertronix Igniter III

Aftermarket ignitions can really mess up the stock wiring. Fortunately this diagram for Pertronix (found on the HAMB) looks reasonably straightforward:

Re: wiring Pertronix Igniter III

So, for my education, the Pertronix unit has power to the coil and module in the distributor?
