67-72 rear bumper on a 66. Dimensions needed PLEASE.

It seems the old search function has gone AWOL on my pooter.


Some of you may know that I have bought a 67 rear bumper to fit to my truck.

HOWEVER........ Being in the UK, I have to wait till the container has landed, and is unpacked, after which I need to travel the 3 hrs to collect my parts.

So to the question........

If you look at the last entries on my build thread you will see I am busy making up a removable tow hitch.

I now need to know from those of you who have preferably the 67-72 bumpers fitted, though the 60-67 Fleetside bumpers can be measured too, what is the total distance from the rear lip of the load bed to the outer edge of the bumpers and also what is the gap between body and bumper.


If you have a removable tow bar fitted, photos would also be massively appreciated.

a friend of mine has a 67-72 rear bumper on his 64 swb. it looks really good. i didn't notice the distance to the outer edges, but i did notice the bumper was VERY close to the bed. almost touching. He said he used stock bumper brackets from a 67-72. i'd get some info but he has the bed off being worked on.

I have a 67-72 rear sport bumper to put on my 65, I havent mounted it yet, still working on the bed wood.

From what I have seen, they stick out on each side about 3/4" or so and are real close to the bed as stated by 68bowtie. I like the look so I am going for it.

I saw a post a while back that said just use the stock 67-72 brackets and stock 63-66 frame holes and they will bolt up easy.

I put one on my 66 also. I can't help with the measurement but maybe these pics can help.

I used stock 67-72 brackets with my install. It was virtually touching when installed where I wanted it, so I marked it up while mounted and trimmed the extra off that I didn't want. I would guess that it was about an 1/8", but I didn't measure.

Thank you for all the replies guys.

When Martin was over, we discussed the fact that I wanted to make up my own brackets as I have a 67-72 Sports bumper on the ocean somewhere.....

I then decided that my life would be a whole lot easier if I either found to buy, or ordered a pair from one of the suppliers.

This was tonight's "progress" with the towbar build, but of course I cannot proceed before I have a bumper in position.

By 7pm Ian, our old lodger was around to do some computer stuff and printing, as he does not have a printer.

Then mate Martin popped in while Ian was here and all work stopped for an hour or more.

After which Martin and I went down to the garage to look at the spacing etc of the removable tow hitch I am building.

Not having the rear bumper yet, we had to guess the spacing and positioning of the sleeve, and I then cut off the last piece of the old towbar mount from under the trucks chassis and mocked up everything.

The sleeve and the slider insert can be cut to length when the bumper is fitted so that it is as far out of sight as possible.

I would love to know if anyone has a removable towbar fitted to a 60-66 C10 and what their measurements are.

Here is the mock up, if you look straight down the rear of the bed, it is 260mm



You will see the cross bar/bearer has been moved up and inward as well, as it was sitting too low and far out for when the bumper is fitted.



From the top of the bed, to the top of the sleeve is 170mm

I would again love to know what measurements anyone who has one fitted, has on their truck.



Another measurement, this time to the bottom of the sleeve, above my cross brace, at 230mm, if anyone van inform me what they have, this would be hugely helpful.



I also plan on making up a removable number plate carrier that should sit roughly like in this pic.




Lastly, sleeve without the insert, resting above the cross bar.



Any advice and info, measurements etc, greatly appreciated.
