58 dash fix

Well like always someone feels like they need to cut up a perfect dash to stick a huge CD player without thinking anything about butchering up a perfectly good dash. So I just found in LMC catalog they make a patch panel to fix this for $40 bucks so that should be here Monday, so with a little fab work will have a new dash and we will use a stock radio in it's place. Check out the LMC catalog if anyone is interested in doing this I will take some pictures of our progress.

Re: 58 dash fix

while i can relate to a po cutting the dash, i also believe if you have to repair it go with a single din repair
single din stereos will be around for ever, finding anything to fit the stock hole you have a limited selection
if your keeping the whole truck stock, then by all means go back with stock
but if you enjoy music then go with a single din stereo patch, just make it look good

Re: 58 dash fix

Back in the 70's and 80's when our "classics" were 500.00 work trucks guys didn't think twice about doing that and some times it was done pretty crudely quite often.

At least they sell a patch panel and they can be fixed with that rather than cutting the dash out of a donor rig.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: 58 dash fix

single DIN is here but really double DIN is the popular size now.

in my buick i'm doing neither...just a bluetooth connection to the amplifiers, maybe through a pre amp, but likely nothing will be in the dash looking new in an old car. the truck will likely get something similar. probably try to make one of the dash knobs be a master volume control, but that's it.

RetroSound has some nice radios to fit the stock dash openings, and their Model 2 has bluetooth... wish I waited!

1973 i paid $250 for my first 58; 1976 i paid $300 for two 57s, $350 for my 59 panel in 1978 and $300 for a 59 in 1984
funny thing... $1200 for 5 trucks, i paid $1800 for the bed cap on my 2009 sierra

point taken, while head units will get more compact and have more options,
i believe the single din will be around for a while just for a view-able display
or maybe just stuck on the dash with double sided tape

Just an FYI: While our radios using original opening locations, we actually manufacture a DIN repair kit as well. The DIN repair kit allows you to use our radios that have an opening that has been cut to a DIN size.

Wifes 05 Honda CRV came with CD and cassette, which I still use, but I think mp3 etc. was the nail in the coffin. Kids don't realize the definition they are missing.
