Custom Autosound Speaker Installation... Little help?
I am installing a custom autosound dual speaker in my 78 C10. Anyone know if the speaker gets installed from the top or the bottom. Top fits snug and holes line up perfectly. However, the speaker is raised a tad. If I install from below, it's flush with dash, holes line up, but there will be a little gap between the screw hole (speaker) and dash hole.

Re: Custom Autosound Speaker Installation... Little help?
Clarification.... I am talking about the single speaker in the middle of the dash. I bought a replacement from LMC, the Custom Autosound Dual. I took the dash off, cleaned up 35 years of gunk, and am now ready to install the speaker.
Here's the Question.... Does anyone know if the speaker drops in from above the dash or if you have to install from below the dash? Above = feels like natural fit but speaker protrudes a tad. From under, speaker does not protrude but the mounting bracket is not flush with the under dash |

you might try looking/searching in the elctrical "truck audio" section too. it doesn't get as many views, but I bet you might find your answer if you do a "forum search"....good luck

Crap. I just did this and I can't remember, 100%. I think it was from the bottom and I had to look it up when I did it, so pretty sure it's correct.

Re: Custom Autosound Speaker Installation... Little help?
I replaced my center dash speaker last summer when I replaced the dash pad in my 1979 K25. I'm pretty sure the speaker sat on the dash and I screwed it in.

Re: Custom Autosound Speaker Installation... Little help?
Yup I did mine from the bottom. If you haven't bought parts yet you can buy a plastic adapter to fit two 3.5 speakers in there to get more a stereo sound. That's what I did and the adapter was mounted from the bottom

Re: Custom Autosound Speaker Installation... Little help?
When it the same a style sizing as factory there on top, when styling is thicker and bigger you may need to mount under or a drop bracket( made up custom made). So when it come to the set up what make to best fit for finish that you like or make the cab as factory looking as you can flow that style. So it comes down to what you want uses, and how you use part get the look you want done.
Some time adding foam cut out rings to any speaker will boot the sound throw the panel/open facing it to.
