3 speed saginaw with overdrive
I found a 3 speed Saginaw with overdrive on eBay, but I don't have enough money to bid any higher. Maybe someone else is looking for one and has the money. The link is below.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
I have never owned one, but they are rare. I have seen some totally rebuilt 3 speed with overdrive going for $1200 to $1300. My main interest in it is the overdrive and whether it will increase my cruising speed with lowering myc rpms. I want to get my truck up 60 mph crusing speed without the rpms excessively high. But the 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive are hard to come by. I currently have a 3 speed without overdrive, they are not as rare but mine does have sychcronized 1st and reverse gear. My next step is to change the gears in my rear end to see if I can get to my ideal cruising speed. This will be less expensive.

Yeah I told the guy I needed to at lease see the gears with the cover off before I would bid on the transmission.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
Yeah, I would think it would be a great deal if the overdrive works, but that's a chance you have to take with ebay........

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
I am pretty sure that is what is behind the 292 in the parts truck I picked up. I was a column shift, can you make them a floor shift?

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
My parts truck is a '66 C10 long bed fleet side. I will put some pics of the trans up when I get the cab off the frame.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
Thanks Dad 64, that would be a great help. I just want to make sure it has the overdrive. There should be a cable labeled overdrive in the cab that you pull to engage the overdrive. Thanks again.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
There was, I have actually taken the bracket and cable out of the cab as I am pulling the cab. I didn't even know it had the overdrive when I bought it, it was a surprise when I started tearing it down.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
Got the cab off the '66 finally, here are a couple pics of the transmission stuff and one of the 292 that is supposed to only have 4000 miles on it since a rebuild.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
I see this post is a bit old but I just installed an OD in my truck today. I have two others sitting in my garage. Getting the drive shaft shortened this week also. This Trans is 5" longer then my stock one.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
That transmission looks a lot like the Borg Warner in my Studebakers. If it's as efficent as the BW unit, this truck would get over twenty MPG. My Stationwagon with a V8 gets over twenty-five on the freeway. On one trip I got twenty-nine.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
You can take that O/D unit & use it on the Saganaw four speeds to build a 4 spd o/d trans.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
Was cruising on the freeway today at 75MPH. Felt the same as 60 without overdrive. I love it as I knew I would.

Re: 3 speed saginaw with overdrive
Got the cable hooked up today. Now I can have compression braking.
