Vapor Canister, the correct part? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

The truck is a 1986 C10 Silverado. The Vin# indicates the engine is a 5.0L V8 4BL OHV. Now the vapor canister that was in it, had a part #17061005BT. I got a new OEM vapor canister of eBay about a month ago that "stated" it would fit my engine size. I put it in this weekend and noticed that the part number is different, #17064627DS.
I tried to do research on this to no avail, I kept getting conflicting info. My question would be to anyone that knows, is this going to be an issue? I took the truck out and it drove fine. I didn't notice any tell-tale differences between the two canisters. What, if any, is the difference between the 2 canisters?

( I kept the old canister and can put it back in, if needed) I just need to get good info from the experts.

It doesn't matter they all work the same.

Seems odd, that if they all work the same, then why do they make the canister with different part numbers according to the vehicles make & model?

Some might have different hookups or sizes depending on the engine and model would be my only guess.

The parts catalog here at work shows the current part number to be 17113146. It replaced the part number 17064627 that you have. The original number that you listed is probably what GM calls a casting number. On the newer models we can convert casting numbers to the current part numbers, but due to the age of the truck we were not able to do so. But, to answer your question the number you bought is a good number for your truck. Buddy

Thanks for the info. I feel a lot better knowing its a good part.
