starter motor question

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if my old starter was the 3 bolt style that mounted to the bellhousing, and my 350 block has the threaed holes in the bottom, can I run a newer style starter by bolting it to the block instead of the bellhousing? Also is there a company that makes new 3 bolt style starters? Thanks so much!

if its a delco starter you can always change the nose piece with your old 3 bolt one , for info http://rmcavoy.freeshell.org/starters.html

Yes, you can . I have a manual transmission wich had the bell housing mounted starter and I swaped in a gear reduction starter bolted to the block. I only had to tweek the metal flywheel covers a little bit and I was sure to use a starter that matched my flywheel diameter. I also checked the tooth engagement with a paper clip as referenced in the above link.

also make sure to use the proper starter mounting bolts. they are flanged and have a knurled section. mini starters also take a different length of bolt than the regular ones do
