51 GMC 1 ton dually with a box?
My 51 has a flat/dump bed on it. I'm looking to use a longbox and either widen it or the fenders/tubs to fit the dual rear wheels. Anybody done or seen a one ton AD pickup with duals and a box instead of a flatbed?

You could make the fenders real wide with a small inside wheel well or widen the box and use a wider inside wheel well and maybe widen the fenders just a few inches.
If you decide to do it I might be interested in the bed and hoist if you decide to sell them for my 1-1/2 ton.

Hopefully I can use the hydraulics and still have a dump box,but if not- you're first on the list there Mr48. You should come over one of these days and take a tour of my junque--

I think dual rear wheels were an option on the 3600 and 3800 trucks. I also believe there was a wide rear fender option for them too.
I've never seen one, but it would be cool none the less. Superior glass offers wider rear fenders. As long as you don't mind fiberglass. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...sto/52124.html If you do pursue it, I would look for a 3600 bed, they are alot more plentiful than the 1 ton 9 foot beds. You may have to move the axle forward though. |

I thought it was an option but possibly just for flatbed/stakebeds? I've yet to find a photo of a standard box equipped that way. It'd be cool to see what factory looked like, but I do have it in my head already.

I've never seen a photo of an AD with factory dual rear wheels with a factory box with fenders on it.
From what I have seen they didn't sell a lot of single rear wheel one tons with stepside boxes on them. The ones I have seen started out as someone's delivery rig. Usually to deliver lumber from a lumber yard. No worries on the hoist, It was just a thought if you decided to sell it. I think my daughter has decided she wants to build the 1-1/2 ton and she was thinking flatbed with a hoist. And yes we will have to meet up one of these days as we live less than 15 miles apart at the most.

Well- I found a couple pictures of just what I was thinking of. This fellow built his box a bit larger in each direction of stock. Grafted in the center of a tailgate so he has a logo too.
