LS swap help??

Hello all

This is my first post but I've been creeping and soaking up knowledge since I started my build last fall. My problem is that my engine is sitting way to far forward in relation to the radiator to even think about hooking up radiator hoses. I've looked through gobs of ls swap threads and everyone's engine sits back what looks likes 4 inches further tan mine. I used early classic mounts. I've considered slider mounts but it looks like they only give you 2" of adjustment. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

post pics of your mounts, and your adaptor plates. also what year block are you using? some year blocks have additional mounting bosses, and this would make it possible to mount the engine forward more

Is it poss to slide your mounts back and redrill holes in the frame, I've seen it somewhere that's what some have to do.

Is it possible you have the stands bolted in the frame too far forward? There are multiple sets of holes there for different motors. That would be my first guess before even seeing the pics. Jim

Could you guys give me a measurement say from the head to the core support so I know how far back in needing to move. Would maybe help to start looking for my mistake. Thanks

You might set the cab in place, to help you with checking rear clearance? At that point, slide the engine to where it fits you (your truck) best Lots of ways to go, but it is a "make fit deal". Mine is slammed to the firewall (my preference), but you need to consider ac compressor fit , ect.? Best of fun...longhorn

Looks like with using the straight motor mounts it put your motor 3in forward compared to a sbc. Not sure if the 73-87 frame stands used make any difference than using 67-72 ones.

Well I ordered some dirty dingo mounts and if that doesn't get me where I need to be looks like I'll have to do some fabricating. I was looking for an easy way out but like usual there doesn't seem to be one. I think I'll set the cab on and see what I can do. Thanks for all your input!!

The swap mounts are 3 hole, you sure you didn't flip them left-to-right and accidentally slide your engine 3" forward instead of 3" rear?

I thought about them being backwards too. I made that mistake with 1in setback mounts and it put me into the radiator. In the pic it looks like there like mount #3 in glock's thread, there would be a difference of .9063in if they were reversed. If they were reversed they would be only be 2in forward instead of three. But they might be centered between the ls bolt holes and that would be about 2.5in forward and no difference left to right. I could be wrong though. The sliders should work four you since your ac is already up high.

Can the early classic mounts be installed wrong...maybe I missed something there?

No sir, they will only fit one way! However, those mounts move the engine a lot forward? If you have the space to play the height, you can fab a set of plates, to move the engine back? Like said, I don't see the corner of the cab....set the cab 1 st, to check rear clearance....then set the engine to fit Longhorn

Ah I saw that you had Dirty Dingo's, so I thought it was possible they were flipped/put together backwards. I re-read that you only ordered them.

Well hey, now you know what to not do when they get here lol.

I actually ended up cutting the ears Off the mounts I had and welding them on to plates to move it back as far as I could. It ended up being a little over 2"
