low vacuum= bad brakes

ok so I have a 66 c10 and it has a 383 stroker in it with a monster cam. at idle it only produces 6" of vacuum. my power brakes master that I just put on wont work. what should I do? looking for a cheep fix. and it has disk up front and drum in the back with a m22 4 speed. thanks.

That's not enough vacuum your cheep fix is manual master cylinder. it takes around 18 in of vacuum to operate a power brake booster properly. The other option is a vacuum pump usually around $300.it's just an inherent problem with a big cam .

a friend had a similar problem. Added a Summit vacuum pump and no worries. It's more $$ than the manual brakes, but personally I like stopping power. Especially with a bigger motor.

Ah...just put a dual cup master on there and the heck with power brakes...less vacuum leaks to fix in the future and cheaper to.

If you already have power steering it is really quite simple to convert to a hydroboost brake system. Even if you don't have power steering, I make everything you need for both power steering and hydroboost brakes. Go fast trucks need stop fast brakes and hydroboost will definitely stop you fast.
