What headers will fit a '51 ?

I just set my motor and trans. in the frame and the GTO exhaust manifolds aren't even close to fitting. Does anyone know what headers will work best?

Right now I'm thinking of using the Sanderson LS158's but they are $500+ for the coated version.

TBSS cast manifolds are the "easy" fit for most swaps, unless your set on longtubes.

Re: What headers will fit a '51 ?

I was thinking about the TBSS manifolds, but thought
I had read the frame would need to modified on the right side for them to fit.

I really don't want to cut into the frame so I am looking at short headers or maybe the Hooker LS manifolds.

Also trying to get this together by the end of August so I don't have a lot of time to hunt down parts or cut my frame.

Hooker Block hugger LS headers are $250ish for painted version, and should fit. I believe Leevon used them in his AD build.

Those look pretty good but I couldn't find any dimensions. So I ordered the Sanderson plain steel headers for $305.

I should have them by Friday, if they don't fit I will order the Hookers.

Re: What headers will fit a '51 ?

Well the Sanderson headers don't fit. They easily fit between the frame rails but hit the starter. It looks like the '04 GTO starter is slightly different so that may be the problem.

Ordered the Hooker headers, hopefully I have better luck with those since they drop down ahead of the starter.

I have 2002 Corvette exhaust manifolds (That's where my came from but they are on others) on my 1950 with a 5.3. Cost $75 used.

The hooker headers fit my app....30 degree kick, & a small dimple in the down tube, for starter clearance. (5.3/stock)....longhorn

Re: What headers will fit a '51 ?

The Hookers fit, plenty of room for the starter and about 1/2" away from the frame rail. I did have to put a small notch in my frame to make the steering linkage fit.

If I had more time I would have tried the Corvette manifolds.

What part number Hooker header did you get. I looked in the Hooker catalog and the PN is 2312HKR. I also saw their Flowtech have block hugger for LS
engines. I am putting a 5.3 in my 1952 AD and want headers that fit.
Thanks

2312HKR is what I used. If it wasn't for the GTO starter fit issues I would have stuck with the Sanderson's. The Sanderson's would have left more room for my steering, with the Hookers I had to notch my frame for the steering linkage. Basically the Sanderson's dump a little more toward the rear and the Hookers were centered
