1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
Hi,
I just joined the forum a few weeks ago. I have a 67 c10 shortbed and have upgraded my front suspension to the Ridetech tubular control arms/colivers. I don't have the money to invest in the ridetech rear suspension at the moment and am looking to drop the rear suspension 2-3 inches (I have stock spindles up front, but the control arms alone drop the front a few inches). I still want to be able to use the truck for hauling and loading 2 motorcycles. What do people suggest spring wise to drop the rear 2/3 inches and still being able to use the bed to haul? I am not sure what the stock spring rate is on these trucks, so if I get a 2 inch drop rear spring I would like the same or higher spring rate. Thanks Kenny |

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
use 2 inch blocks , then you wont have to mess with springs or shocks

I heard that blocks only work with leaf springs? Do you know if that is the case? Also, would blocks be better to keep the hauling capabilities for the truck instead of 2-3 inch drop springs?

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
They make blocks for coil suspensions , your components stay the same , springs and shocks ,, so there really is not alot of change in ride quality except for the lowering effect
I have 2 inch lowing blocks on my coil spring equipped 67 c10 it made the bed rail dead level

Thanks! Which brand blocks did you go with? Do you have any recommendations on who I should buy them through?

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
You could do a few things:
2 or 3 inch drop block and get heavy duty springs 2 or 3 inch drop block and get helper springs (airbag that can be filled at the gas station/air compressor) when truck is loaded down. This would allow you to firm um the rear suspension when you have a load in it I am still in the build process of my truck, so I haven't thrown the dirtbikes in it yet. However, 2 dirtbikes is roughly 500 lbs. Which is not a lot of weight, so new springs and maybe new shocks should fix your issue Also, call the tech line at each company you are looking at purchasing the springs from and they will be able to give you the rate information |

dont use cpp rear drop springs, they are nice and reasonably priced but they wont hold the weight of a motorcycle.

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
I also use my truck to haul equipment and materials, had drop springs but was continuously bottoming out. Ordered airbags for the rear with a small tank, compressor and paddle valves for in cab adjustment and love it. Bed full of sod, rocks, metal, whatever will fit the bags handled perfectly. I got my bags on eBay then the valves, tank, compressor, lines and valves from way2low, I think, he's a member here and great to work with. Do it once with bags and you'll be happy.

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
So far I've only called CPP about rear spring rate. He said they are "same as stock" but didn't have rate info. I didn't find that very helpful, as there were several "stock" rear springs.

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
I would still replace the rear springs and rear shocks even if you decide to just use lowering blocks. The reason is you just replaced the front suspension with all new parts so for better ride quality I would also replace the rear springs and shocks too.

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
I'm using 6" drop springs in the rear and I've hauled 1000 lbs of stone... just how heavy are these motorcycles?!

Re: 1967 Chevy c10 rear drop springs
All I did on my daughters truck was lower rear with springs the I added rear air shocks worked great. We use it to haul mulch and bikes . I will also say when empty have a little air in them rides great.
