Re: radiator overflow canister

I use one on my stock radiator, open to ground. A stock 7lb cap. So unless it's a closed system like some new LS Motors then you should be good.

Re: radiator overflow canister

Both rad cap types are 'vented'!!
I could leave you hanging there with that statement but......
That cap is for a rad that has an overflow hose that vents on the ground.
It only has one rubber gasket.
If you're using an overflow bottle that you only catch liquid in it will work fine.
But if you want an overflow bottle that is designed to return the coolant to your rad when it cools down, then you need a cap that has two sealing gaskets. One gasket where yours is and one gasket to seal the cap to the rad flange.

Re: radiator overflow canister

oldtrux: Where did you get your radiator. I ordered one from Worley Auto fro a 63-66 C-10 and it's not even close. 6" too wide and too thick.
Any assistance would be appreciated. I have a 1964 C-10 Short SS.
Thanks.

Re: radiator overflow canister

For my other old car I got the small overflow bottle and bracket from a GM Tracker and put it where my regulator used to be. The two mount holes that were drilled on an a diagonal lined up perfectly with two diagonal holes on my fender well, believe it or not. I used to add coolant regularly thinking it was using it but since the bottle it is good for a season or more.

Another way to tell if a cap is designed for an overflow return is to lift that little metal disc at the bottom off its seat. There should be a very light duty spring that pulls it shut again.
