Where's the best place to buy bumpers?
I need new front and rear bumpers for my 68. Who has the best quality as far as chrome plating, longevity, etc. ?

Re: Where's the best place to buy bumpers?
The fleetside rear bumper from LMC is junk I wouldn't buy it, the steel is weird it is flexible like spring steel and doesn't hold it's shape and bows in the middle when installed.
I have heard this complaint over and over and I'm not sure what brand it is and if you can even get another brand but I wanted you to be aware. |

I'd check the parts forum for junkyard parts and then get it rechromed. GMC Paul's is supposed to be good along with Classic Heartbeat but seriously, with so many originals out there, I'd get one of those.

Get ones that are triple chrome plated. They are all made overseas nowadays. I have bought several from Brothers over the years and am very happy with them. I am sure there is another vendor closer to you that carries the same style.

Make sure when you install it, that you follow torque instructions. Overtorqing will cause cracking of the chrome at the bolt holes and allow rust to start.

Re: Where's the best place to buy bumpers?
I wonder if there is more than one company making the rear bumper or if it's just one company rebranding the part for everyone.
I purchased the "premium" triple nickle rear bumper and like I said earlier it was like spring steel and it flexed and bowed in the middle as soon as I installed it. I'm sure the chrome plating itself will be excellent I am just questioning the steel they used to construct it. |

Re: Where's the best place to buy bumpers?
Brothers looks great and I don't mind spending money on my truck, but by the time you buy all the parts its getting pretty spendy for a DD truck. Maybe a gently used one from a board member?

Re: Where's the best place to buy bumpers?
this is a great question...
I have been searching everywhere and cannot find a decent quality bumper. And when I come across an original, no one will ship it, even though I am willing to pay not only shipping and packaging, but for their time to box I up and take it to UPS. |
