Front suspension drop failure

I have 2 1/2" drop spindles and cut 2 full coils off the stock C/10 springs. Truck is fully bottomed out with tires resting on the top of the inner fenders. Clearly 2 coils is way too much. Time for new springs.

You shouldn't be cutting coil springs to begin with.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Nah... Cutting springs is fine. Do it with a sawzall or cutoff wheel, not a torch and you'll be fine. 2 full coils is pretty aggressive, most people do just one and get around 2" of ride height with a moderately stiffer ride. Chopping a coil off and relocating the shackles and hangers is a near zero cost way to get lower.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

You might want to try a smaller size tire. That's the way my truck sits and ive got a 225/70 15 and it still rubs on hard cornering. had a set of 225 75 15s up front and it was about the same but rubbed a tad more(Hercules terra trac) I had 225 75 bfg ta tires that for some reason didn't rub though.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

If you're buying springs, buy 1-ton springs. It adds spring rate so you can ride low with less bottoming out --- but only cut a coil or so off (I cut a coil, then kept trimming 2" off the end until it sat at the height I wanted).

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Probably 1", drop springs have more coils with a higher spring rate.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Thanks everyone. I just bought the Moog 6454 springs from SummitRacing. Couldn't beat the price, $8.97 a pair plus shipping. Must be a mistake, but I bought them before they see it. The cheapest Moog 6452 springs I found are $69. One-ton springs it is.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

There is a easier and cheaper fix for this. I've been running this set up for a while now. AFCO makes a coil spring spacer/adjuster for the dirt track application. This also works very well when your truck doesn't sit level across the front

Re: Front suspension drop failure

I could not resist!
I need to change one spring, front end is sitting 3/4" lower on the passenger side, so I guess I will change two at that price!
