What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Working on the wife's 57 and I would like to convert it to a manual transmission.
What pedals and linkages will i need? Is there something that mounts on the frame rail for the zbar linkage? Anyone know where to source these parts? Any help in this conversion will be greatly appreciated! If you have some pictures, that would be great!

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Robert, there is no Z bar. that is chevy car tech.
The truck just has a clutch arm that goes to a rod with a ring on it, to the clutch fork arm that pulls the clutch. The pedal bolts onto the pedal arm. Fork arms come in two flavors, long and short. Short are 58+59 with a pressed divot that prevents the ring rod from migrating off the wear area. The fork arms are hardened only in the wear area.

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Coupe guy,
any pictures or ideas of where I can source these parts? I already placed an ad in the want to buy section... My 66 c10 has a z bar so I figured (hoped) it would be that easy..

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Hopefully someone who has pulled and saved the pieces while switching over to an automatic saved them and sends you a pm as it seems guys are always changing over to automatics in those trucks.

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Here is the clutch linkage from the Factory Assembly Manual, best $30 you will spend. Does it have an auto now? you will need to locate a truck bellhousing with the motor mounts too.

I do have a truck bell housing (one starter bolt hole broke out), long style clutch fork, adjustment rod and the other rod.
I'll see if I can get some pics... Tim |

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
LDO, hopefully someone will chime in here. I don't know if the sixes (235/261) take the same housing as the v-8's. What engine is in your '57?

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
V8 and six bellhousings are different 55-59. I also believe truck and auto bellhousings are different, cannot remember if it is the crossmember mounting configuration/angle or center hole that is different. If you are using a later model transmission with mount then you can use a more modern bellhousing, which will be aluminum vs cast iron. You do not need to remove, and I recommend not removing, the bellhousing crossmember. It is a tension link that keeps the frame from spreading at the front rear spring perches and cab mounts. Lots of guys remove them, and probably not a really big deal on street or parking lot driven trucks. Some have also replaced them with a smaller removable tube section.

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
Anyone know what a fair price would be for the clutch pedal, linkages and the frame bracket?

Re: What clutch parts will I need and from where???
I have been getting the stuff to convert my Chevelle to manual trans. Doing that research I found that a lot of the aftermarket Z bar and linkage were poor quality over time and ended up getting a factory setup. With everyone converting to auto transmission, you should be able for find one.
