After market brake lights
My 15 year old daughter and I are restoring a '54 Chevy Pickup for her first car. I'd like some added safety features and am wondering if anyone knows of a good place to find an aftermarket brake light that I can mount in the back window of the cab. I'd like to find something similar to what newer cars have nowadays where there is a 3rd brake light in the rear window.
Im also looking for side mirrors that have the same round look of the early 50's but maybe larger that the stock ones. Yep.... Im a little protective of my little girl! But super excited she bought a classic truck for her first car. |

Re: After market brake lights
if you have some sheet metal skills there is a nice little led light from a chevy cavalier that would fit into the spoiler of the car but you could fab up a bracket for it easy enough or fit it into the rear of the cab sheet metal.it is pretty flush mounted but does have a bump on the back side.
if no work is more what you are after, check out what would be available for a jeep. check the andy's auto sport site part number LED3B1, it comes in a billet housing and the base is adjustable by the look of it. you could screw it to the area below the back window possibly. is this a small window cab or a big window cab? this one would look better in a big window cab prolly. you can just wire it directly to the brake light switch before the wiring gets to the turn signal switch, that way it is only brakes and won't blink with the signals. |

Re: After market brake lights
I increased the safety factor of my taillights a huge amount by changing to vintage style LEDs. I bought mine from The filling Station
www.fillingstation.com. I called them up & told them I already had new repos. They talked me out of entirely new lights and instead sold me the insert/lens kits. Vintage look and big diff in visibility.

agreed wholeheartedly. I put 54-55 LED lights from bowtie bits on my 47 GMC and you cant UNsee them http://www.bowtiebits.com/store/stor...Category_ID=33 here is a video of the first drive, one park light wire was disconnected but watch when he steps on the brake near the end of the video. BRIGHT they are bright in the day and like LASERS at night, if you keep your foot on the brake slightly you dont need back up lights.

Re: After market brake lights
We made a third light, its a lot of fab work to make but fairly easy to put in. the dome light is behind it so easy access to wire up The light is a 54 Chevy car. We did swapped the light for an LED.

Re: After market brake lights
you could also check out the 3rd brake light from an astro van or an S10 blazer. they are self contained and mount with 2 screws. they could be inside the cab in the window or outside.

Re: After market brake lights
Yea an s10 blazer or tahoe/yukon with barn doors has a stock led 3rd brake light. It would probably work well in the window
