I need your help/opinion
Hello, I am brand new here. I actually just found this page recently. I am looking at buying this 1972 Chevy K20 Cheyenne. Over all it's in pretty decent shape. My only concern is this two piece top. I've never seen anything like it. Appears like the top is removable. The doors have been cut across the top. I have no idea if I will be able to find new seals, weather stripping etc. for around the windows. Has anyone ever seen this before? Help! He's asking $4,600 which seems pretty fair for the overall condition of the truck.
Thoughts? Like I said, I am brand new here. I've never done a forum before so if there's anything I'm not doing right please let me know! I'm all ears. I have been totally consumed with looking at all the amazing threads showing different builds. Great stuff and a wealth of knowledge. |

Definitely different... Looks like you would need a new cab (with doors) or at the least you would have to weld in a new roof and get new doors.

Re: I need your help/opinion
From what I see it looks like a pretty nice truck. Especially if that's the original paint! Trim showing looks good. The removable cab is definitely not stock but if you like it and its not too noisey or drafty-my advice is go for it! It would definitely be different. If you want an original C20-Keep looking. I just purchased a nice running '71 Custom Camper C20 rust free on EBay for $1800.....

Just like some others that come up for sale. Not quite thought out "Major Mods" or too much to drink and just got a new sawzall and now he want you to fork over too much money to bail him out.

Re: I need your help/opinion
In my opinion $4600 is probably to much. If it didn't have the top cut up then that's probably a fair price but there's a lot of unknowns with this truck. If it is a removable top then was the cab braced properly because if not the doors won't line up and the cab can twist going down the road causing the doors to fly open and the doors and windows will never seal properly. Another concern is it kinda looks like they might be trying to hide something under the visor, it probably doesn't line up very good under there. I agree with the last post, the best thing you could do with this truck is get a new cab and doors. If I was you I would probably pass on this one unless you can talk them down about two or three grand.

Re: I need your help/opinion
I'd leave that for some other gambler. There's too much uncertainty to potentially waste a lot of money. I'd say, if you want a convertible, buy a blazer. If you want a truck, make sure the roof is still attached.

Re: I need your help/opinion
That looks like one of those fiberglass halfcab conversion tops made some years ago for blazers. There were several companies making them. None now i think. These top kits come up on ebay now and then. They were not intended for pickups, only blazers.
A close up of the parting line on the back of cab shows some damage as well as a crack or two elsewhere. It depends on what you want out of it as to what its worth.

Re: I need your help/opinion
K/20s are getting hard to find, but they are certainly still around. If it were me I'd hold out on this truck, there's too many unknowns with that removeable top. For that money you should be able to get a pretty solid running driving specimen. Patience is the name of the game.

Re: I need your help/opinion
I would pass unless it can be bought for 2k at most. It'll cost 2-3k at least to find a cab n doors and get it painted and installed.

Re: I need your help/opinion
Keep looking for another truck . Just by the pictures shows cab and bed not aligned (rusted cab mounts) cut front fender caps ( trucks done it's fair share of 4 wheeling and salted roads ) front fender and door misaligned (Past snow plow action in snowy Pa)cut roof (never ending leaks cold drafts and more leaks ) When possible look for a 4 wheel drive truck south of the I-40 interstate hwy line and you'll avoid 1/2 of the perils when buying a 4 wd truck . use searchtempest.com to search all the craigslist ads at once .

Re: I need your help/opinion
I am very grateful for all the feedback. I've really been on the fence about this truck. At first glance I fell in love but there's a number of things about it that just leave me feeling uneasy. You guys hit most of them without ever seeing it in person. There are a few cab mounts rusted. You can tell that the seller has done some things to mask some of the problems. There's a ton of rust around the bottom (fenders, doors etc) but then I look at some of the frame off restore jobs on here and start to think maybe it's not so bad and I could handle it. I am just SO excited to start my own first project.

Re: I need your help/opinion
Looks interesting. Beware of cuts that you do not know the cutter and his/her capabilities/knowledge.
I would not touch that one unless the price was so low I couldn't refuse it! Bill
