Tire and Wheel Input

Ultimately, I was wanting to run AR Torq Thrust IIs on my truck. I had settled on 18s with 245/45-18. I've seen this size on several trucks and thought the overall diameter and sidewall height looked right.

I found a set on CL but they have 245/40-18 mounted on them. What do you think, will that be too small of a sidewall and diameter, or do you think there wouldn't be much noticeable between the 40 and 45 series tires?

Currently I have 205/70-15 which has a diameter between the two.

205/70-15 Side Wall 5.6 Diameter 26.3
245/40-18 Side Wall 3.9 Diameter 25.7
245/45-18 Side Wall 4.3 Diameter 26.7

Thanks,
HUSSEY

Re: Tire and Wheel Input

an inch is a pretty big difference in diameter, definitely noticeable. when buying craigslist rims though I dont let any seller talk to me about what tires cost because in my experience I always get to replace them almost immediately. "thats 300 bucks worth of tires" is what they SAY and what they mean is "those tires were 300 bucks when I bought them 10k miles and 5 years ago and one stayed flat for the last two years till I decided to sell them"

a 225/75/15 in front and a 235/75/15 out back looks about perfect to me on these trucks in my opinion, so a 245/45/18 would be on the very edge of ok.

Re: Tire and Wheel Input

I have about the same opinion as far as the tires when buying used wheel and tire sets. The tires are not worth as much to me as the wheels are.

I don't know, I've seen 245/45-18 on several trucks and liked thier look, it's all in personal preference though.

Some pics I've collected:

245/40-18 and 305/35-20

245/45-18 and 275/45-20

245/45-18 on back, 225/50-17 on front which is 25.9 in. in diameter. Love the look of this truck by the way.

With 18s front and back.

Some others, don't know the tire size but are obviously 18s and 20s with some fairly low profile tires.

Re: Tire and Wheel Input

Remember even though the tire sizes say they are the same, each sizes varies slightly by manufacturer. So a 245/45/18 from one brand might actually be .5 inches smaller than the other manufacturer. Even the appearance might look different. Some hang over the lip of the rim to protect it, while others are almost a vertical sidewall.

sorry man and apologies, even though I said "to me" and "in my opinion", it still wasnt enough. That is only my preference, and I did a size comparison 225/75/15 to 245/45/18 and it was just a smidge smaller on the 18 and THAT is what I meant by the edge of ok, to me, in my opinion only.

run what you like and dont mind me with my foot in my mouth.

Whao...chill man. Just a simple debate of preference. I value your opinion and those of many other members here.
