Anyone running a CB in your truck? If so, what antenna are you using and where did you mount it (the antenna)?

I'm going to put mine back in soon. It's a Midland Weatjer Max II that I bought a lot of years ago. I'm using a magnetic mount antenna that I painted the nase white on, so it blends with the roof. I have a hole in my roof right over the dome light from an old XM radio antenna. I want to run the cable through this but I would have to cut the threaded end off of, then somehow re-attach to the cable. I will try to post pics of what I got.

Back in Highschool I had one in my chevy Luv. I ran just a simple 10 foot whip mounted to the front drivers stake pocket. I used one of those rubber tie downs that insert into the stake pocket and then expand to hold. I modified it to hold the whip. I then took the whip and curved it over and hooked it into the rear stake pocket to keep it out of the way. Most of the time it worked fine in that configuration but when I needed more range, I'd unhook it and let it loose.


More recently my father had his mounted to the west coast mirror frame using a 4 foot fire stick (fiberglass antenna). He said his only complaint was that it caused a slight vibration at higher speeds in the mirror. Not enough to be a problem but still a bit annoying.

Finally my grandfather had an old ford with a diamond plate step bumper that he mounted a whip to and then used a tennis ball to keep the whip from banging the rear of the bed.

The best non evasive truck mount is a lip mount with ball and whip.

Mine has a ball with a bayonet disconnect on it.
The antenna stays inside until its needed, then I snap it on the ball and up into the woods I go.
My radio in a 1970s model 149 Cobra with extra switches on it, and a reduced output for amp use. Ive talked from Seattle to England and down under from sitting on a mountain top in the cascades.
I also have a Uniden Grant I use as a base station, but Ive had no use for it in decades.

Thanks all. I'm running a 29 LTD Chrome with dual 4 got whips in my C10 and a 29 LTD Classic with 102" whip on my K10.
