1964 SWB BBW Junkyard Find

Here is the 64 Fleetside i posted about a couple weeks ago. Got it looked over a bit, top of cab above windshield and piller are rotten, but the floor is rock solid, very minimal rust underneath in the supports and the fleetside bed is one of the nicest ive had. Too back the cab is eaten up as bad as it it...someone could probably fix it but I have no experience at it. It was a Custom cab with a 283 and automatic with power brakes. Motor is gone, as well as transmission.

Ive never seen one rust like that. Rusted that high up on a cab ona 64. Ive seen it on the 60-63s more frequent.

Re: 1964 SWB BBW Junkyard Find

except for the roof that truck is much nicer than the two 65's that im building .
im building one for a friend of mine , and I got his parts truck , the black one to build one for my self. .
my roof is pretty bad on the right front so im just going to replace the roof with a good one with the bbw .
the local junk yard wants $150 for the whole roof with the bbw glass.
I can replace the roof in a weekend . its ez for me to do ,
I have been doing this kind of stuff for over 40 years .

it would be nice to see someone repair the truck that you found ..

Not sure, seemed to stick out a little longer but it also has room to move forward. Hasn't messed the bed up any like most back by backing into things. Not sure what I'll Dow it's it, leaning towards selling it to a better home to get restored right away

I wonder if mouse wizz caused that cab to rot on the inside like that.

that would be better than parting it out ,
it would make a nice truck for someone who can rebuild it .
it was a great find .

Re: 1964 SWB BBW Junkyard Find

I can't bring myself to part it out. I'm working on getting a title for it and then I might go talk to the guy who does our bodywork and see what he thinks it would take. Always wanted a short fleet big window pickup but I'd rather spend a little more for a driver with the other projects I have going on. And to think it was going to be crushed

Usually, that's caused by the seam sealer getting brittle and causing a major leak path between the roof skin and the upper cab structure. It's common on the '60-'63 trucks, but very, very uncommon on the '64-'66 trucks because if it's a leaker, the water naturally runs down the slanted windshield posts and winds up rusting out the floor right at the kick panel area. Honestly, I've never seen a '64-'66 cab rusted that severely at the visor mount.

As many problems as it has, it's fixable. Don't part it out, you'll regret it later.

Yeah I think my plan right now is to put it in line with the rest, get a title, then probably sell it to someone who is capable of doing the work. At least now haha

my 65 roof is rusted out on the right side . I found cotton stuffed inside the hole over the outside of the windshield . mine had a mouse living in the rusty corner of the roof at one time .

Re: 1964 SWB BBW Junkyard Find

There was a small bunch under the seat from where a few nice called it home and I'm sure once it's cut open the roof will show the same..it's a shame though, one pickup that has options and the nice blue that is the about the same as our 62 impala is so rotted. But that's not the only one they made!
