3spd to turbo 350 drive shaft ??

i have taken the original straight 6 and 3spd manual trans out of my 65 chevy stepside. i have replaced it with a 350/350 trans combo and was wondering if the driveshaft needs to be cut down or not. can anyone help?

Hard to tell with out pulling a tape on it. Motor position and the length of the trans have an effect on the length. Easyist thing to do is try what you have and see where it ends up.

Re: 3spd to turbo 350 drive shaft ??

im thinking your gonna have to cut it down ... because i have a 350 / 350 combo in my 65 long bed fleet. and the TH 350 trans is a short tail and my drive shaft is a cut down 1 piece for that combo my engine is mounted in the stock location . which has the valve covers almost touching the firewall if the back of your trans has a long tail as i remember long would be about 7 inches long you will most definitely be cutting it down . and as i once heard here before i seem to recall somebody saying its not the best thing to do to move the mounting of the engine forward because it throws off the weight distribution and our trucks are already way to light in the tail so just some food for thought there .. if your trans tail is only a 4 inch then its a shorty .. Happy Truckin
