What is this connector?

I was cleaning my engine bay today getting all that nasty winter crap off of all my polished parts and found this. What is this connector for?

Re: What is this connector?

Should be a mate to it coming off the distributor. Your distributor may have been swapped to the old style which does not have this so, someone left that hanging out.

Re: What is this connector?

As far as I know it had the original 85' HEI dizzy, then I had a guy replace it with a MSD HEI couple months back.. I wonder if it connects up to the MSD, I didn't see any other wire though, what's the function?

I should add, the truck originally had a 305, now has a 350

Re: What is this connector?

IF your current distributor does not have the mate to that plug coming out of it, a pre computer style distributor was installed. The computer has been bypassed for that part.

Personally, you/your motor are/is better off with what you got now, in my opinion.

Re: What is this connector?

It was for the ESC (electronic spark control) module that those trucks came with (plugged into the distributor). It retarded spark advance based on a knock sensor that was on the lower passenger side of the block.

Re: What is this connector?

Thanks guys. I knew that connector wasn't there until recently lol

Just kind of scared me seeing an unplugged wire!

Re: What is this connector?

That would explain it. Thanks you guys! Today was a good day, I've been having a pretty serious oil leak everywhere I'd go I had a puddle of oil left behind, well today was nice weather and I actually had time to look into it. Climbed under the truck and saw oil down the side of the engine, popped the hood and I could tighten the last valve cover bolt with my finger, tightened that up and no more oil leak! Thank the lord, it was driving me insane recently.
