They are fairly easy to replace, and extremely important. I would replace them.
Is it the front or rear that are stripped?

Just ask for 7/16-20 wheel studs. They can look them up, too.

Re: My wheel hub bolts are stripped! What's the thread count?
Original GM Part number 63-64
3851677 7/16-20 1 3/8" front 3819518 7/16-20 rear Now as usual others fit and become replacement standards. Manufacturer DORMAN 610-1861 some sources have DORMAN listed 610-1861.1 years that it fits 1958-86 Raybestos 1677B Apparently these will fit front hubs and rear axle, Sources states that their 1/8" longer making them 1 1/2" Easiest thing to do is to pop out one of your existing wheel stud and bring it with you to compare threads and knurl. You can lay your stud over the new one and the grooves of the thread should match each other. Your knurl could be a little flatter in the peaks which would be normal as they crush into the wheel hub to stay in place.

Loosen the brake adjuster if you can. If not, or you have and they won't come off get a BFH and start whacking around the inside perimeter. If they have never been off before (like mine) it could be quite a challenge.

Re: My wheel hub bolts are stripped! What's the thread count?
Thanks guys! Got it! It was very easy like you all said! My rear drums were a B*tch and I think they never been off because the adjusting peep hole weren't punched out. I replaced the studs that were stripped, punched out the rear peep holes and got everything squared away. Took an hour... Love the truck community! You guys are all great! Much appreciated!!

If that side was stripped it would be good insurance to do the other side too. Maybe you already did, just thought I would mention it.

Re: My wheel hub bolts are stripped! What's the thread count?
It's a good chance to go through those brakes too. This is how it all starts. You strip a wheel stud, so you replace it. You may as wheel do the brakes too. And since you are doing the brakes you may as well replace the ball joints and tie rod ends. And remember that axle seal that was leaking, better do that too. And since you are doing that may as well do the rear main seal on the engine. And it would be easier to do that out of the truck. And since you are doing that you may as well repaint the engine compartment. And since you are doing that you may as well... and all of a sudden your truck takes up 4 garage stalls, all because you had a stripped wheel stud.

You just described why my truck has been on jack stands for the past 2 months. It started with a leaking oil pan and turned in to a lot of money spent. Next week she should be ready for the road! |

Yup!! Lol my truck has been in the garage for the past 2 weeks as well cuz it under went a dual Mast Cylinder co version and I ended having to do everything no related, I am just waiting on my brake pedal push Rod, my co worker offered to weld and extend it for me to fit the 67 MC.

Welcome to the world of customizing trucks. LOL The domino effect can be very high... one thing leads to another and another....
Glad you got your studs swapped.

Re: My wheel hub bolts are stripped! What's the thread count?
What's the advice on greasing the studs. I've done it once for many years to any vehicle that is new to me. They won't wear out again, even with snow/summer wheel changes twice a year.
