1966 chevy 292 questions
I have searched the web looking for the proper harmonic balancer. Does any have a clue on the right one? Where can I get one?
I'm total lost. |

Re: 1966 chevy 292 questions
What is different between a 1966 and a 1977 292? Because on Rock Auto, I can pull up a balancer for a 1977 (just randomly chose that year) but not a 1966.

I don't know. I can't find any info. I've went to all the local business and they have no clue. I know they're out there because I have one on my 292

Re: 1966 chevy 292 questions
It will fit but the spaceing & width of the pulley grooves will be different.

Re: 1966 chevy 292 questions
No. It wont work unless you have the complete front pulleys, brackets, water pump, & therm. houseings from the 77.

Re: 1966 chevy 292 questions
Wait and see if anyone else chimes in. If not, I'd be tempted to buy the one for a later year engine and compare it to your existing one.
A 1966 should be the same generation as something later since not much changed. But I wonder if the harmonic balancers got different cast-in belt grooves over the years? EDIT: oops, I took too long to reply, yep, I thought the pulley grooves might be different. But the question is how different?

Re: 1966 chevy 292 questions
I got this harmonic balancer for mine and it seems fine. 1964 chevy 292.
