Front Bumper Question
Ok gang,
I would like to use one of the bumpers with the lights in it (1982?) on my 1985 Silverado. From what I can gather, I have narrowed it down to two options from LMC and one from Truck and Car shop. LMC 1. Purchase a 1982 bumper from them PN 38-9859 for $190 a. Will I need new front bumper brackets? 2. Purchase the conversion front bumper for my 85 PN38-9905 $220, then a brace kit 30-3770 for 80 bux. Truck and Car Shop 1. Purchase PN83-30499 for $250. Catalog doesn't say if any brackets are needed but it wouldn't appear so since the bumper is listed for my year truck. Looking to hear from anyone that has used any of these bumpers, pictures, level of satisfaction, etc..... thanks in advance.

Re: Front Bumper Question
From what I have heard the LMC front bumper doesn't fit very well and the lights do not fit in it at all. I haven't personally tried their bumper but I had an original 82 bumper for sale on craigslist and the guy that bought it from me said that was why he was looking for an original one.

Re: Front Bumper Question
I bought a very good but not perfect front bumper from an 82 and plan to put it on my 83 and am also curious now about needing additional brackets. I plan to use the 82 bumper lights as running lights and keep the stock 83 grill lights as turn signals.

Re: Front Bumper Question
This the bumper you looking for? It fits good and uses the stock brackets. I did some more adjusting after this picture to get it level.

Re: Front Bumper Question
Your wanting this one. This is my 86 with an 81-82 bumper. It uses the same brackets. Mine was already there when I bought the truck, so I can't be any help on where it came from.

Re: Front Bumper Question
Try searching here: http://www.car-part.com/index.htm
I have found quite a few salvage trucks local with very nice parts. I did a search myself and it came up with several pages. But of course you want to stay somewhat local to pickup. At least it would be an OEM Bumper. And if it needs re-chromed, there is someone on here that does that. To me, its worth a shot. I always look here first to see what I can find. |
