Setting up my suspension

So I've got a nice roudy 355 now, a 3000 rpm stall converter, and a 3.73 rear end with a mini spool, and totally stock very old suspension. It's a 1970 C10 LWB, and I'm looking for ideas for the rear suspension mostly because the front is getting springs/shocks and a sway bar. I recently installed the mini spool and now I have some wheel hop when I launch hard and get the tires spinning. I'd like to cure the wheel hop and also set the rear suspension up well enough to hit my first goal with this truck which is to break into the 12's. I'd be pretty happy with that I also want to lower it a little and get it sitting level but without drop spindles. Not sure what my horsepower is but basically it's a 355 with 170cc RHS iron heads, 2.02/1.60's and 67cc chambers with a .015 shim head gasket which is around 10.5-1 give or take. Comp 280H cam and 1.5 rockers, Edelbrock RPM manifold and Edelbrock 650avs carb. Long tubes and it still has the 2 1/4" bolt in flowmaster exhaust but that's getting scrapped for a 2 1/2" Borla XR1 exhaust.

I think there's a little left on the table with the Edelbrock 650 carb, and I've been on the fence about a Holley or Holley based carb for a while. Some first hand experience on a swap would be great too

I'm running pretty much the same motor/rear end with a TH400, I too am getting wheel hop, i'm replacing shocks on all 4 corners as the old midas gas junkers are leaking and are not doing thier job. I think a rear swaybar would go a long way, I am going to look into making one for my truck

QA1 makes a set of single and double adjustable shocks for our trucks that will most likely cure the wheel hop. If that doesn't do the trick there are several crossmember options that will give you adjustable trailing arm angle. Adjusting the angle will make the suspension hit the tires a little harder and take the squat away.

Have you ever taken it to the track? I'm curious how hard it is the break into 12's with a 4000lb truck. Mine has a th400 as well

Just curious... how do your trailing arm bushings look?
If there's any play at all in them it can cause wheel hop.
I've ran air shocks and stiffened up pretty solid, I wouldn't recommend it for the
street, but as heavy as these trucks are, they're still relatively light in the rear.

Haven't been to the track with it as of yet. I would suspect low 14's high 13's, look to be adding spray or boosting your 355 (based on compression ratio, I'd advise against boost) if you want to venture into the 12's.

I've been trying to deal with the starter bolt issue but I'll take a look tomarrow and see how the bushings look. The whole suspension looks factory stock and really old so I'm sure there are a few things that need replacing
