found wire near starter
I found a yellow wire down near my starter that is just hanging. Truck runs and starts but I noticed it is not charging now. This is the old alternator with the regulator mounted on the core support.
does this yellow wire get mounted to the starter? Thanks |

Re: found wire near starter
The yellow wire going to the starter is (on a stock engine engine harness) actually a wire with 3 ends. It starts at the bulkhead connector as a braided looking resistor wire, is spliced near the starter to a yellow wire, then the yellow wire is connected to the starter solenoid and the stock ignition coil. It provides 12v to the coil while cranking, and lowered voltage while the engine is running. It has nothing to do the charging system. If it isn't connected to anything, I'm guessing you have a different distributor and wiring going to it. You may just have a bad alternator. We would need more information about your setup to get a better idea of what's going on.
