Stall converter advice

I have a chance to get a great deal on a stall converter, but I'm wondering if I'll be happy with it. Just looking for some advice.

My setup:

1978 C10 stepside (~3800lbs according to google)
350 Vortec with cam (unsure of specs yet), intake, carb, and headers.
700r4 transmission
3.73 rear gears
275/60R15 tires

As of right now I have my factory converter, unsure of the current stall. The new converter is from Bowtie Overdrives Extreme Duty series, 2600 stall. The truck will only be street driven. Any input?

I put a 2500 stall in my truck, I have about 600 miles on it now. At light throttle just cruising around it feels funny. Hard to describe, at part throttle it shifts real soft, and just seems mushy. But if you hammer on it it's great. I don't notice a difference at highway speeds.

Take your setup, replace the 700R4 with a 200-4R and the rear gears down to 3.08's and thats my 79 I used to run. I had the exact same converter from bowtie overdrives too. I hated it. If your only racing and having fun it would be fine but for a daily no thanks.

Your cam and your converter need to work together. Don't buy one without the other.

My cam is quite snotty (231°@050, 108LSA, idles at 8" vacuum in drive), and runs a 2500 stall converter. In stop and go traffic it acts completely stock. Punch it, and the engine will flare up to 2500 where the cam is making power, and the truck catches up to it.

You don't want to be trailering anything with a high stall converter. Heat = bad.
