Tank Selector Switch Location
The aftermarket switch for my dual tanks finally broke. I bought a factory ac delco switch. Since my truck did not originally come with dual tanks, I am not sure where the factory mounted the selector switch. Can anyone provide a location? It's an '83 K20.
Thanks Doug |

Re: Tank Selector Switch Location
My 87 (fuel injected) is located just to the left of the ash tray. I can get a picture tomorrow.

Re: Tank Selector Switch Location
The OEM rockers need a square hole.
If you have a truck that didn't come with the NL2 option I'd use a DPDT 1/2" diameter stem toggle switch. Toggle switches are cheap, more robust than the GM plastic rockers, don't need a big square hole, can be hidden anywhere you like, and can be bought cheap... between $5-$15. A regular Six terminal DPDT switch can be easily wired as a polarity reversing switch for the Motorized valve. DPDT Toggle Switch Two Position ON - ON... Six .250 Disconnect terminals Polarity reversing "DC motor" toggle switches are only easily avaliable as three position "center off" switches. Polarity Reversing Toggle Switch Three Position ON - OFF - ON... Four .250 Disconnect terminals The Delphi Packard 56 Six Position unsealed connector shell # 12052978 is perfect for the above toggle switches. Terminals Female Delphi Packard 56. Pick your wire gauge. http://www.mouser.com/Delphi-Connect...z0zlezZ1z0yy6b BTW the motor reversing toggle switch can be subbed in place of the 81-91 rocker switches by slipping the terminals out of the square plug and into the six position angled terminal plug. The switch mounting is up to you... switching to the center OFF position makes a stealth fuel pump disable on the TBI trucks.

Re: Tank Selector Switch Location
My 83 has the same location as TKCR. I just bought a replacement switch from NAPA for $15. The problem with these switches is that they are very fragile. There a 4 tiny plastic tabs which hold the face plate and toggle mechanism to the actual switch. I can't find any way to remove the switch from the dash without removing the dash pad. The air conditioning ductwork blocks the area behind the metal dash and prevents your hand from reaching up there.
My experience is that these switches fail about every 3 years. At least they are cheap to buy. My 76 had a different type of switch. It was more of a positive snap feel to the toggle. The 83 switches I have been buying seem to have a springiness feel to the toggle. |

Re: Tank Selector Switch Location
Thanks all for the info. I already picked up a stock switch so I am going to try it out. I had an aftermarket toggle switch before and it was what broke
