Another power steering conversion
I have searched and read a lot of posts about power steering. All say that it is relatively easy to swap in a 69-87 setup. My question is, how hard would it be to put in a power steering setup from a 2000 suburban 1500? The reason that i'm asking is my father-in-law is parting one out and said I could take anything that I want from it that he isn't using in his '50 pickup. He's taking the engine and transmission and, if I take the power steering, will put an idler in there. Really, I can't think of anything else that I would want from it other than power steering. I can't beat the price, free, so I wondered if anyone else has successfully used this setup.

i just put a 1999 suburban vortec 350 in my 64 c10. My truck has 1977 c10 complete front suspension and steering box. The swap was very easy. I bought brand new steering pump lines for a 77 c10. There is a fitting on the back of the older power steering pumps for the high pressure line, that has to be swapped onto the 1999 pump to get the threads on the power steering lines to match the pump, and gearbox. I went to the junkyard and unscrewed the fitting on the back of the pump, which is just a large nut, around 1" i believe. This fitting screws right into the 1999 pump, enabling me to use the 1977 power steering lines and 1977 steering box with a 1999 power steering pump. Not sure if the year 2000 is the same, but i believe it may be. hope this helps

I should've specified that I have a stock 1966 C10 with a 283. Would this be able to be swapped in on the stock front end?

The 66 does not have a frame indentation to handle a PS box but with the after market bracket they can be fitted. Capnfab who is on this forum makes and sells them. I don't know about a 2000 box but I would think it might work. I put one on my 66 from a 67.

Forgot to mention, I used captainfabs power steering bracket kit for my 64 and it worked perfect

Yeah, I saw the captainfab bracket. I will probably order one if it will work for it.

You need a steering box that bolts to the outside of the frame. Your paw n law's burban is on the inside I'm pretty sure.

The '88 and up C series steering boxes will not work. They mount on the inside of the frame.
You can use the brake booster with one of my booster brackets to mount in your truck.
