HPTuners question
Almost ready to start my lq4 swap but need to reprogram the PCM. I have HPTuners but have never used it. Have built and configured from scratch some Megasquirts so hopefully the learning curve isn't too steep. Not sure how to approach this and I thought this forum may be a bit more 'noob' friendly than the other ones so here goes
the build - 01 truck 5.3 harness - 01 truck 6.0 lq4 - 03 savanna van 4l60e So obviously need to get a lq4 config and the 4l60e config on a PCM. I have - 01 truck 4.8 pcm - 01 truck 5.3 pcm - 02 truck 6.0 pcm I believe my options are to either take a '4.8/5.3/4l60e' pcm and manually reconfigure all of the engine parameters to teh 6.0, OR take a '6.0/4l80e' pcm and do a 'segment swap' to get the 4l60e parameters in place. Is that correct? whats the better of the 2 options? will both use the same credits? I could pay someone local to do this but already have bought HPTuners and the build philosphopy of this truck is to do everything myself (even when it doesn't make sense lol!) thanks! |

Re: HPTuners question
Are we sure the 02 truck actually had a 4l80e? Plenty had the 60e
Otherwise, Steal the base file of a silverado 1500/2500hd and flash it on the 4.8/5.3 pcm. The PCM doesn't care about displacement (once flashed).

Re: HPTuners question
thanks for the reply Br3w. Good point re; 4l60e vs 4080e, not sure what that 6.0 PCM is actually from. I was starting into a 5.3 swap but a buddy had a 6.0 he wanted to get rid of, that he bought from a guy who bought from a wrecker.... so who knows. It came with a 422 PCM but not sure from what. So I bought that setup.
Can you clarify what you mean by pcm doesn't care about displacement *after flashed*? Do you mean if I go to a HPtuners OS based flash then it doesn't matter? Or if it doesn't matter on the stock PCM then I could just use the 5.3 PCM and remove vats and be good to go? thanks |

Re: HPTuners question
What I mean is as long as its from a V8 truck, the only real differences are in the fueling/timing/airflow as it relates to displacement. So the 4.8 and 6.0 are setup the same, just with different maps in those areas. The 6.0 has more fueling for obvious reasons. You could get a 6.0 to run on 4.8 base file technically, but you'd be running lean and maxxing the ECM's correction factors to attempt to idle it.

Re: HPTuners question
Thanks Br3w. I got HPT 3.2 installed on my laptop so will check out the 6.0 pcm later today, maybe I'll get lucky! Once I connect/read the pcm will the 'base' info tell me what trans is on it or do I essentially have to compare trans values to 4l60e flashed pcm values?

Re: HPTuners question
well turns out what was supposed to be a 02 6.0 PCM is actually a 2002 avalanche 5.3. I got impatient and licensed it anyways, turned off vats and it started right up. woot! So, getting somewhere! albeit with the 5.3 engine parameters, so thats next.

Re: HPTuners question
Pm me, just wondering if you'd be able to flash my PCM for standalone.
