Red Truck 2.0

So slight backs story to get everyone caught up:
My dad bought an 86 c10 short bed in 1990 and a few years later I learn to drive in it. I get it when I turn 18 and drive it through high school and college. It is lowered and raised up and has several engine and trans combos among other mods during this time.
Around 2004 I give it back to my Dad because I'm getting married and have too many cars for my new house. Between then and now Dad tears it down and repaints it, makes a custom bed cover, and changes to fuel injection and back to carb.
fast forward to this summer Dad moved to Florida and is still using the truck as his daily. The truck has no A/C so he calls me and says he is buying a new daily and if I want this truck to come get it.
So, on labor day weekend my wife and I fly to the Fort Myers area to drive the truck home to Ohio. We stop in Kentucky for the night and in the morning the truck is gone.
I get a call later in the week and they find the truck stripped and wrecked. After what seemed like forever I went and picked the truck up and brought it home.
tTe frame is twisted and bellied so I decide the best course of action is to get another truck and use what I can off this truck.
Sorry for the long post. Should be more picture heavy from now on.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

So this weekend I picked up a new truck. Red truck 2.0.
1987 350 TBI 4spd Manual.
almost no options except, a/c, posi, and factory bed rails.
pretty much untouched except for a repaint and an engine change.
I got the original engine with the truck though.
Once I get its state inspection I will get it off the trailer and get more pics.
Im going to use the lowering kit, factory tach gauge cluster, rear bumper and rearend out of my old truck.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

So I got it unloaded and cleaned up some. Already took the step bumper off and replaced it with the factory bumper off the 86.
I have to get the lowering parts off the 86 now and get this thing down where it needs to be.

So I didn't like the red grill. I made it more stock appearing.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I had a day off of work to burn so, I decided it was time to get this thing lowered. First I had to get everything off the old truck.
the GMC didn't have a sway bar so I ribbed that off the old truck too.
The old truck had a Belltech flip kit and nitro shocks in the rear. The front was also Belltech 1" coils and 3" spindles.
I replaced upper and lower balljoints, idler arm, front shocks and sway bar bushings will I was at it also

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I got started the night before and got the rear done. I got a pic with the back just down and then yesterday I finished up. I'm hoping the front settles a bit more. If not I might cut half a coil.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Looking good man. You're taking a heartbreak and turning it into a great truck. And with the work you're doing swapping over the parts and the character, it's legitimately becoming the truck that belonged to you and your dad, regardless of the VIN number. Nice work.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Thanks LT7A! I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out. Next on my list is to get the exhaust off the old truck and get it on the new one. I have to do some work on the header though. It got caved in a little during its time away.

Bbbc10, I hated those bed rails when I bought the truck and it was going to be the first thing I took off. Then I found out the were factory and they kinda of grew on me. Now I think I really like them and there is no way I'm taking them off.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

My dad told me about this in the car when it had happened, really sucks. Kind of made me nervous as I am in KY and building my first truck with my dad.

New truck looks nice, really liking those bedrails. I just picked up a set myself. Looking forward to see what you do!

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Cut the stock front coils and got the front down another 1"1/2. I think it looks just right now.
I'm looking for a set of bumper guards (bumperettes)for the front if anyone has got some they want to get rid of.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Got my seat recovered this week. Looks awesome and was cheaper then buying one from LMC. $200 cash. I was reading people were having trouble with the seams splitting on the LMC ones after like a year.
I also got a steering wheel out of a GMT400 in really good shape at a swap meet for $10 and got it put in.
Front bumper guards are on their way!

Also got my rallies painted and the tires came today.
255/60/15 on front and 275/60/15 in back.
Just need to find the correct trim rings now.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Finally got some trim rings for the rallies and a 442 steering wheel at a swap meet.
The steering wheel is the same as the one that was in my truck when it got stolen. The one that got stolen was in every one of my dads cars and trucks since the late 70's. So I had to replace it.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I got a donor truck for the rebuild of my original truck! Its an 86 and it was in California for most of its life. The frame still has paint on it, pretty rare for around here. $700 with a good running 350. It has super clean original doors on it too. I will shorten the frame and swap the cab and bed off of red truck 1.
And a pic of the red truck 1 in its current state

I like what you've done to the red truck! It looks a lot better with the rallies.

Hello!
Your truck looks very nice! What size your rally wheels are? 8x15" or 10x15"? We buy our own truck project front 8x15" rallys and rear 10x15" and we don't know what size is best of these wheels. Thanks in advance.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I haven't updated in a while so this is what's up
Got Red Truck 1 stripped.
The front part of the frame is trashed. From the trans cross member back it is still square.
I will section the back part of the red truck on the front part of the blue truck. I ordered my air ride on black Friday and saved big.
Merry Christmas to me!
