Do our trucks have a cab vent?
My doors are a real PITA to close unless one of the windows is partially rolled down. Is there a vent to allow air out of the cab?
I had the same issue with my last truck. Any help would be great. Thanks, Gasasaur. |

There are small vents in the door. But still have problems. I just shut the doors hard

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
Do your doors have the striker bushing on them? If not they can be real hard to close. If you don't have any, use some electrical tape around them.

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
yup.. should be a plastic bushing. if not, go to the hardward store and get a piece (or scrap) of PEX pipe. I had to cut a slit in mine to get it over the stricker bolt (take bolt off and slide on the pipe). works like a champ.

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
Agreed - I thought this was BS since I was slamming the doors on my truck for years, and couldn't see how that would really resolve the problem. Tried this as a last ditch, and haven't had to slam a door once!

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
Just wondering if adding cab vents and repairing the strikers would a "double" benefit. I know a lot of newer trucks have them between the cab and bed. Anyone tried this?
Just wondering out loud.

If the door closes easily at that point - you know you have a venting/pressure problem. If the door is still hard to close then you know it is in the hinge/latch/seal subsystem. These doors are fairly lightweight and short and therefore have never closed with just a push. Compare them to a passenger car door (like from a two door) in terms of length and mass and I think you will see what I mean. K

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
I think he stated in the first post it closed easier with the window cracked...mines the same way..cracking a window makes it much easier to close..I've got all new strikers and hinge bushings and door gaskets..the rubber valve thingy was disintegrated on mine and I didn't bother repairing it..

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
Yes, mine is definitely a venting problem. Both sides close nicely with window partially down.

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
Keith, where is that door vent in your picture? I see the "fins" on the bottom of the door in the metal, is the rubber behind that?

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
My 83 C20 doors are not easy to close like a modern truck, but replacing the hinge pins and door striker/bushings helped a lot. I can give the doors a good push or pull and they will close easily. It doesn't take very much slop or misalignment for the door to hang up and close hard. I don't think pressure is a problem with my truck. I would only use genuine GM door pins and bushings.

Re: Do our trucks have a cab vent?
I did the PEX bushing. It was about $2 for 8 feet of 3/4 PEX, and I still have 7 feet left after fixing several friend's trucks as well. Seems my driver's side one is not working as well after 2 years but another little bit should fix that.
