Hood emblem re chrome or new

I've never had anything rechromed, not sure if it's cheaper or where to send it. New is around $300, your thoughts?

Prices for chrome plating are all over the place from almost affordable to totally beyond most folks budgets.
I'd think that you would have access to a few good chrome shops within a hundred miles or so from where you are.
I'd try Sherms in Sacramento. They have a good rep with the hot rod brigade and show car crew. http://www.shermsplating.com/ no doubt not the cheapest but they have a rep for quality.
Depending on what road you take they are only 65 or 70 miles or so from you.

Price checking a minute ago I see that Premier Street Rods has them for 225 with either the red or black around the bowtie.

I suggest rechroming your original, repops usually use minimal plating, if any copper or nickel undercoats. Find a shop that does their own prep, not a jobber. Some shops will just replate over pits and other bad spots, be sure to use a shop that will fill and polish 'in house'.

As costly as rechroming is, you are far better off than buying repops. the chroming on the aftermarket parts isn't of the calibre as a rechroming shop and the material of originals is far better.

Willy Shiny has done stuff for me,he is very good.He does motorcycle wheels but did all my other parts too,He takes the parts to Mexico where there are no regulations on the chemicals.get a much better job using old school,California has just about run the chrome plating shop out of the state

i bought a new repop hood emblem a year ago... so far the chrome still looks good, but the red paint quickly faded to orange. not happy about that at all! i paid around $225-$250 for it from a ebay store

I have been using New Age Plating in Fresno, CA. They do it all in house. I am very pleased with their work. Some can be seen on the build pages.
