New Headers
Got my new 1" 3/4 Headman Headers installed and was wondering will I still be able to do a 4/6 drop, It looks like I have plenty of clearance (About 10") I'm doing 2" 1/2 stainless exhaust to the mufflers and tailpipes.

Yea ur headers will scrap now an then....i had long tube headers an they scraped an messed up the flanges an caused exhaust leak....i ended up going to shorty headers

The flanges would be the issue. They don't like scraping.

I've heard that early 70's chevelle headers will work and give you more ground clearance. I'm putting a 454 in my K10, ground clearance not a problem, but I have a new set of hedmans for a chevelle I'm going to try.

On my 78 step side I have full length headmen headers and a 4/6 drop . I run rally wheels no problem with clearance . my sons 2wd 82 k5 blazer 4/6 drop different story . bought it with the unknown brand headers in pic. I replaced with headmens . no issues New headmens have ball and socket collectors no leaks or flanges to scrape

Your engine bay looks great, job well done. I have headmen mid length on my 86 and no issues.
It would be nice if your exhaust guy could keep the exhaust tube size consistent. Over the step down in pipe size. I know its a small thing to some folks. I'm a bit on the picky side when spending money. Ken

I thought I would have to go one size smaller from the 3" dumps from the headers? Like 2 1/2" all the way to the tailpipes. so it creates some back pressure?

I am not trying g to start a war, but in the last few years, the old wives tale on back pressure may have been disproven. Do not be afraid to go big if you got the space. I also have read somewhere that 2.5 mandrel bent flows better than certain styles of crushbent 3". Do a search on YouTube for roadkill garage. Great show and great guys did a back to back with different size exhaust and open header.
I just bought a header back system from Summit. It's Pypes brand, it was $200 more than the other kits, but it came with an x pipe and your choice mufflers. It has great reviews for our trucks, stainless, **** ton of clamps and hangers, and the only off the shelf 2.5" for the price. |

I couldn't find a 2.5 system when I was looking for my K10. I ended up getting 2.25 and now with the 454 swap I could use 2.5 or 3 wouldn't hurt.

I jus took mine to the local muffler shop an they charged me 420 to do my exhaust sounds mean for 350

If that a mandrel bent exhaust, that's a great deal. I tend to not pay people to do anything for me. I am way to anal and am never satisfied. Regardless of what it is, house work, plumbing even alignments on my car.
I just had a motorcycle frame stripped and powder coated. It was the first time that I can remember that I got what I was promised. It was great. I gave extra money because it looked so good. |

I kinda doubt that, unless it was a specialty shop. I mean, I'd be surprised if there's a muffler shop in the entire Dallas area with a mandrel bender.
I ended up using an inexpensive mandrel-bent exhaust kit from HeartThrob. And then and modified it to connect to my Patriot headers using mandrel-bent sections from Summit Racing and header extensions from Hedman. I just can't handle crush bends that effectively turn 2.5" pipes into 2.0". And talk about ground clearance! The Patriots have a ton, but they are not without their problems.

That's great info. I like the ground clearance. I am dropping mine as well. I am going to notch the cross member for the exhaust rather that run under with the extension. It's free that way and exhaust is straighter and should be easier to plumb into my Pypes x pipe.

I can't see 4" drop giving issues. My 78 is 5" drop and hits the collectors if I'm not carefull but they still seal fine.
