suburban for ls swap on 84 ?

Sorry , I posted this in the wrong area yesterday . can we re-work this computer and harness to do what we need to ? thank you

Son has an 84 that we have not gotten started on for a couple different reasons . may have the answer now . deer was faster than I was with 2001 suburban , Is there any reason we could not use this for our donor vehicle ? I read a past post where a guy used the suburban tank and as long as we can make the harness work this may be our start .
thank you

Re: suburban for ls swap on 84 ?

A 2001 suburban was my organ donor. Use as much as you can. I even used the 2001 radiator, had to modify my radiator core support a bit, no big deal. 2001 radiator, 68 fan shroud, 2001 fan and fan clutch. Works great. Had to extend the upper 1968 mounts by picking up another pair and cutting and adding length.

I like the idea that if the radiator is shot i can get a stock replacement overnight at most auto parts stores if not in stock as a reasonable price.

The engine harness was very brittle and living up north in the salt belt i opted to do a stand alone harness and paid a small additional fee and added 5 feet and located it behind my bench seat in my 68 c10

I'm probably not the norm with mounts here but i like to fabricate so i used the 2001 mounts and bent and welded my own adapters to get my engine as low as possible and as far rearward as i could go (nascar tactics for weight transfer and improved handling). Normally people use dirty dingo plates and they work good but by installing a "F" body oil pan it's very thin up front and it allows me to drop the engine down lower

My perception of using dingo mounts and original motor mounts is the header choices were few (6 years ago when i did my swap) because the frame brackets get in the way. My swap ended up with the oil pan about 1/2" away from the steering center link, but it does not rub and i removed the stock frame brackets because i didn't need them

Criuse control is easy to do now as all of the issues are resolved.

About the only variable is which throttle control is the 2001?? Drive by cable (dbc) or drive by wire (dbw)

I used part #411 gm pcm and it does i think all ls 27 tooth reluctor engines.

You are probably using the most popular ls platform and costs have dropped and information has vastly improved. All of your answers are here!! Welcome aboard.
