Rear STATIC drop question

My son's truck sits right where we want it in the FRONT, it's 4.75" at the cross-member. It has lowering springs and 2.5" drop spindles.

We want to lower the BACK... is there a 'rule-of-thumb' for cutting the coils?

For example: One full coil length cut off will equal how many inches of drop?

Do not cut the rear coils. They are a beehive shape and will not work if cut. Buy drop coils or add bags.

Okay, another question...

We're wanting 2" drop in the REAR. However, considering that the OLD coils are worn and most likely sagging, what would you suggest in over all height in buying a NEW drop coil?

Would you suggest buying 3 or 4" drop coils to get a 2" ACTUAL DROP?

The reason that I think this is because I have a '57 Chevy Belair that I bought 2" lowering coils for the FRONT. After I put them on it actually RAISED the FRONT 2". I'm sure it was because the old coils were worn and sagging.

I have a 5 inch drop coil and a 1 1/2 drop block. Rims and tires are 255 55 18.

I would get a 3" spring. That should get you close. Drive it a bit and let it settle in. You can fine tune the rear with spacers between the spring and trailing arms or frame if you get a little more than you want. Both Belltech and Hotchkis suppply spacers with there springs on some packages. I have the Belltech in mine and the ride is good. http://www.belltech.com/products/bel...drop-5353.html

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that 3" drop springs should be about right.

Is that kit 3" drop WITHOUT the spacers? How much do the spacers raise it?

Spacers lower the rear of these trucks because the axle sits on top of the control arm. I installed 4" lowering coils on the rear of my '63 C10 and ended up with an actual measured drop of 3.25". Also I have 2.5" drop spindles and 2" drop coils on the front of my truck.

Rear spacers will net a 1-to-1 drop. 1" spacer gets you a 1" drop, 1.5" spacer gets you a 1.5" drop etc.

4" drop coils, 2" drop blocks, and a pipe notch. Bed floor channeled 3" up into box, adjustable pan hard bar, shocks are stock (so far)... 15" steelies with 235/75/15's

The spacers are about 1/2" thick and if used with the spring will raise the truck. Spring spacers are not the same as lowering blocks. Also when you ad spacers to the springs the net change at the wheel well will be larger than the thickness of the spacer with the spacer being ahead of the wheel on the trailing arm. Also remember the rear bumper will drop even more. Some folks measure the drop they want at the rear bumper and some look at the position of the wheel in the well. So if you want you bumper a few inches lower to get the look you are after it takes less spring than getting the wheel up in the well the same amount.
